I loved American Idiot...(and The Saints Are Coming, obviously) and somehow I forgot about them. |

I agree with your list from the 1950's to 1980's.
1990's, Nirvana ,and other groups called Alternative Rock, not really. Where are they today? Not really around. Since 90's,it is manufactured music.Recycled. Ripped from decades before. You have entertainers with lots of sales, but I would not call them breakout artistswith a lasting imprint on the music scene and their songs still being around known to generation afgter generation decades from now. Taylor,Beyonce , Britney, Lady Gaga, etc. great sales but will not be known decades from now. Taylor can't sing and writes cute songs with the themes of a boyfriend/girllfriend song.First they were in high school, and nowher new cd and video has them starting college. Oh what a leap. Beyonce is very talented in she can really sing, dance, but she is not a pioneer (Aretha,Tina) or has alsting impact like that. Gaga is dressing like Grace Jones and is still not that original. Britney is true manufactured material with writers, back up singers, glitz and lots, tons of protools and studio wizardery with top producers. BTW, I like Taylor, Bey,and, Britney, Gaga. I am not taking a slam at them |

Made some difference, imprint on music scene. Changed their style and grew and did not recycle the same cd from when albums were put out and yeah, they were around to make albums and tape cassettes to cd's and dvd's. They are popular throughout the world and can fill massive stadiums. U2. Runner up of a group from the 1980's that is still going strong and has sold 100 milllion-BonJovi. They went pass their expiration date of 80's hair bands and changed and fans changed and stayed with them. They took their talents and pushed themselves in other areas. David Bryan of BonJovi just won a Tony for his Broadway play. Jon Bongiovi has does other things. Richie Sambora designs clothes. Tico is a painter, artists. |

2000s were a waste, the new artist of the decade for me however is the gaslight anthem.

The only reason Nirvana and Alice in Chains (The Original Band) are not around anymore is because their lead singers are pushing up dasies. AIC has reformed and doing well; The drummer from Nirvana has the Foo Fighters (kick ass if you haven't heard them) and helped start Queens of the Stone Age.
I think most of the music today is crap. Same stuff just regurjatated over and over. Lady Gaga's appeal is she dresses and gives the appearance she is someone you want to meet on a one night stand that last all weekend. Same for Beyonce; however she was great in Goldmember. |
