Re: Tom Petty died today
"Even the Losers" hope he has a "Room at the Top" and is "Learning to Fly" and isn't "Free Falling"

Re: Tom Petty died today
The sad news is official now. Tom Petty has passed away.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers songs are touchstones. And not just the hits. I remember when my best friend and I picked up 'Into the Great Wide Open' and listened to it on a car trip. We remarked how each song seemed to get even better. And topping a stellar opening track like "Learning to Fly" - perhaps his career best - is no small feat. Tom's voice was so sincere and nuanced and enjoyable. Not many people cover TP songs because a lot of the songs don't sound right without Tom singing. And what he could do as a songwriter was second to very few. |

Re: Tom Petty died today
Great artist. Also one of the best to learn for a beginning guitarist. You can actually play much of the second guitar as well on an acoustic at the same time the way his songs are arranged. I saw him at the Hollywood Bowl years ago. His lead guitarists is probably one of the best in the world. I remember Tom saying at the concert he was his right hand man.
