4th down, and it's not just those two...4th and 1 against the Saints in OT FAIL. 4th and short against the Texans, on the Texans 20 something...FAIL. He does this all the time, it is his signature move now. Needs to check into rehab for compulsive gambling.
Thing is, if he had kicked those field goals, it would have been POINTS, popping the cherry, which would have removed the tension on the offense, which is a huge difference in a playoff game. The longer the clocked ticked without any Falcon points on the board, the bigger the uphill climb became, even if the Giants weren't scoring a lot either. It could have been 10-6, late in the 3rd, plenty of time and anybody's ball game if Julio or Gonzolez gets a catch or if Turner breaks a big run. You could see after the stop on the second 4th down -- the whole Giants team were totally on fire and pumped up after that, instead of the game being a tense nail biter. Like an idiot, Smith HANDED them that advantage and the Giants took it and ran away with it. I know it's still playoffs and we should all be thinking about Frisco, but if Smith stays the head coach there, which I think he will, then I have never been more confident in my life that we will repeat as division champions next year. They will bring in a new OC with a new "system" that favors coddling Julio's and Roddy's ego, and Ryan will have to learn a whole new style of offense and they will struggle to work out the kinks. And if we're lucky, the new DC will tinker with their defense and try and make them into something they're not. All in all they are more likely to move backwards next year rather than forwards. |
