Just going by passer rating alone, he's at the ragged edge of top 10. Ryan rates 12th in completion percentage (possibly the most important stat for a quarterback) He rates 15th in yards/att (another very important stat) Not captured in the passer ratings is how he does at the end of halves and 4th quarters when the game is close. Ryan's numbers, completion % specifically and his passer rating in general fall off considerably. Definitely not something you'd expect to see in a top 10 quarterback. And of course there's the reason he's called "Noodle Arm". Look at his completion percentage of passes over 20 yards. It's terrible. Julio Jones and Harry Douglas COULD be serious deep threats for the dirty birds, but as long as Ryan is throwing the ball, we'll never really know. You can look at stats anyway you want to pick out what's most important to you but, in my opinion, it's a hard sell to say he's top 10. |

factor in he does not step up in pressure situations, as shown by his numbers in the 4th quarter in close games, his numbers in the final two minutes of halves and fair to poor performances in the playoffs. and Add to that his weak arm and horrible completion percentages in passing over 20 yards. (you have to have seen how he lofts the ball when he throws deep) it becomes very hard to give him the nod over other quarterbacks that have very strong attributes that don't get measured in the passer rating, like Roethlisberger's ability to extend a play and difficulty to bring down or Vick's ability to improvise and make big plays on the ground. (And he finished 12th in completion percentage. Check the ESPN page 2011 NFL Player Passing Stats - National Football League - ESPN Then NFL ranking is wrong. Alex Smith finished ahead of him by 4 tenths of a percentage point. The NFL doesn't have a good reputation for getting their facts straight.) You might use other ways to determine what's important in a quarterback or you may just like view him threw red and black glasses, but.. Can you see how it's easy to say he's NOT in the top ten? |

I'm going to have faith in this guy no matter how many things you say he sucks at.
