Falcons coordinator calls Matt Ryan a Top 10 quarterback
Falcons coordinator calls Matt Ryan a Top 10 quarterback
Posted by Michael David Smith on July 31, 2012, 1:01 PM EDT APFalcons quarterback Matt Ryan had career highs in passer rating, yards and touchdowns last season, but when he had a disappointing performance in Atlanta’s postseason loss to the Giants, there was talk that Ryan wasn’t delivering the way the Falcons needed from their franchise quarterback. But Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter doesn’t see it that way. According to Koetter, Ryan is one of the 10 best quarterbacks in the league, and Koetter sounds confident that Ryan is going to lead an explosive Atlanta offense this season. “How he’s won as a starter in the league, we think he’s a top 10 quarterback,” Koetter told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “His play backs that up. We have an excellent group of players on the offense. Players, offensive staff and coach [Mike] Smith are fun guys to work with. We have a lot of talent and a lot of guys that can make explosive plays.” Many others don’t see it that way: When NFL Network unveiled the list of the Top 100 players in the league as voted on by their peers, 13 quarterbacks made the cut, but Ryan wasn’t one of them. And ESPN’s Ron Jaworski, who recently ranked all the league’s quarterbacks, put Ryan at No. 11.:nuts::rofl::nuts::rofl::nuts::rofl::nuts: Top 10..please  |
In all fairness, he did not specify which league. I'm sure Matt Ryan is a top 10 quarterback in many metro-Atlanta peewee leagues, perhaps even a number 1.
|
Yeah so what does that mean ?

To be fair, It was an Atlanta coordinator, there's a good chance he couldn't count any higher than 10 with out being arrested for indecent exposure.
|
Or maybe he meant top 10 in the division :)
|
Too easy to bash the Falcons... It's just too easy.
|
The kids a good QB, but he no Drew Brees.
|
Well Skid Britches was better than Freeman last season, so I guess I'd place him 3rd in the division after Brees and Newton - again purely based on the overall performance of the previous regular season.
No way is he a Top 10 QB in the league, but I guess he could be in some point in the future. |
Freeman has the talent, just needs to lose the prepubescent girl mentality. I'd still place him over Ryan though.
|
He wouldn't be a bad back-up for us. Problem is, he is in a division with one of the best QB's in football. Hard to see past the fact he is a Falcon however.
|
the only reason people pput Matt Ryan outside top 10 is that he hasn't won a playoff game. All of you can go check his stats.

They are not. You can't ever enter a football game thinking that there is no way to win against the opponent. NFL players certainly don't do that.

Why did I expect all of you Saints fans be like this? It's only been about a week since I joined these forums and I still haven't met a decent Saints fan.

Be glad you have been here a week, ATL fans/mods of the Atl boards ban Saints fans on sight... How is that for classless? |

You've been here a week, no need to think us classless... Most of us will talk civilized football and the smacktalk is left in the smacktalk section... I was just giving you a hard time... |

Brees
Brady Manning Manning Rivers Rogers Schaub Flacco Stafford Romo There's 10 right there who I think are better than Matt Ryan, and I'd say that about Matt Ryan regardless of who he plays for, it's just more fun to say it about him because he's a Failclown. What hammers me is the media, ESPN in particular, and John Clayton to be specific, calling Skid Britches "Elite". IMO Brees, Brady, Rogers, P Manning, and MAYBE Rivers, are "Elite". Matt Ryan doesn't even sniff elite. Is he top 15? Maybe. But top 15 ain't top 10, and it sure as hell isn't "elite". |

but I'd also put Vick and yes, Sanchez, above ryan |
Vick? Flacco? SANCHEZ?! You guys gotta go check Mattyice's stats.

B) Jesus is now on Sanchez's team so seriously, watch out C) c'mon, no soft spot for Vick? |

And yes, I think Facoo is better than Ryan. I think Stafford is better than Ryan. I think Romo is better than Ryan too. Neither of those three is "elite", and Ryan sure as hell isn't elite. |
And how does one get the "ICE" moniker when one hasn't won a playoff game? The media hypes this turd so much - they're desperate for another star. They should look north to Detroit for that in my Opinion. Skid Britches sucks monkey balls.

NFL Stats: by Player Category
This is passer rating. I'm going to try to dig up the rest of the stats so you guys can see them. |
Quote:
As for Matt Ryan not completing 80 percent of his passes... Only Drew Brees had even a 70% (71.2) completion percentage. I think only Aaron Rodgers came close(68.3). 60% is considered above-average, an Matt Ryan is at 61%. The the qbs in the top 10-5 had about 61%-65% |

He's also tied with ELi Manning for 6th in the league for TDs. (29)
He's 8th in the league for First downs. (205) |
well until he starts scoring 40+ TD's a year, I'll stay unimpressed
