NFL reviewing Tom Brady's slide

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is being reviewed by NFL officials for possible discipline for the play in the AFC Championship Game in which he slid and attempted to protect himself by making a kicking motion at Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed, league sources said.

Ravens safety Bernard Pollard makes a fair point, but don't expect Tom Brady to be fined for his questionable slide, writes Jamison Hensley.

During the final minute of the first half, Brady slid to the ground to end an impromptu run. The quarterback had one leg raised a few feet off the ground and it hit Reed, who emerged from the play without injury.

Ravens safety Bernard Pollard has publicly complained and asserted the quarterback deserves to be fined by the NFL, which levies fines on defensive players for helmet-to-helmet hits.

Pollard said Monday, "If you want to keep this going in the right direction, everyone should be penalized for their actions."

He said Brady "knew what he was doing. It has to go both ways. Hopefully the NFL will do something about it. If they don't, that's fine. If they do, then that's fine."

This Bernard Pollard?
» September 2008: Pollard, then with the Kansas City Chiefs, crashed into Tom Brady's planted left leg. Brady was lost for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
» January 2010: Pollard, then with the Houston Texans, closed in on Wes Welker, who tore his ACL while trying to cut away from the safety.
» January 2012: Pollard, now with the Ravens, dragged down Rob Gronkowski, who sustained a high ankle sprain. Gronkowski was knocked out of the game and limited in a Super Bowl XLVI loss.

Every time Brady took off running it was just ugly. His slide just added to the awkwardness.

Re: NFL reviewing Tom Brady's slide

I want there to be a big stink about this. Talk about the punishment not fitting the crime. Frank Gore wore his socks too low last week and it garnered a larger fine than Tom Brady received for attempting to injure a defender by sliding with his foot in the air as the defender was closing in on him.

This NFL is beginning to lose me...

Re: NFL reviewing Tom Brady's slide

Brady looks like Ty Cobb going into second base, cleats high, breaking up the double play in that picture, . Fine him.
