this is a discussion within the NFL Community Forum; I go to every single Saints game that is within 300 miles of me. You go to support your team because if people stopped going they would be the San Antonio Saints....

Re: Why Attend Games
When I lived in Birmingham - the pre-Katrina, Aaron Brooks years - I took several weekend trips a season to see the Saints live. Now that I live near (and work in) NOLA, I've been to one lousy preseason game!
I could afford the tickets, parking, overpriced beer, etc. when we sucked ... but as we improved, demand & prices rose beyond my meager telecom-guy salary. I love the Saints & try to never miss a game on the tube, but I gotta pay my bills, man! ... and for what it's worth, I was never tazered or forcibly removed. Given how bad we were in the Aaron Brooks years, that's REALLY saying something! |

Re: Why Attend Games
Once upon a time, before God elevated his Saints because he just got tired of hearing about St. Vince in GRB and the hole in Texas Stadium, you could easily find a ticket in NOLA.
It was good for tourism, especially for those in Wisconsin, because a Lambeau ticket is a hard nut to crack. I have been to every Packer v. Saint game since I hooked up with my old man. It was also negotiated in wedding contract to travel to one NFL away game - EVERY year. (My goal is to visit every NFL venue.) Hubby, he puts up with it. I want to go to Europe some day and with the NFL playing one game there - I have a reason. The crown jewel trip was when he sacrificed to take me to THREE games Thanksgiving week. Seattle at Saints, Saints at Dallas and forgive me, Packers at Atlanta. I think he secretly likes it but whines about it. |
Snap, placement, kick by Hartley, and it is — AND IT'S GOOD!
IT'S GOOD! IT'S GUH-HUH-HOOD! Ha ha ha! Pigs have flown! Hell has frozen over! The Saints are on their way to the Super Bowl! |

Re: Why Attend Games
I love reading comments from people who assume that the police are always in the right.
The police are not all gems. There are some really really horrible people who are police officers. My friend is a cop and he has told me stories that would make your hair stand on end. My friend is a good man - it's too bad there are not more like him. |

The issue is not whether the police are right or wrong.... That is what a court room is for. Even if that cop is wrong, you will bleed before it is over. If you want to bleed and get arrested then by all means get right in his face. I prefer to go quietly and let my lawyer handle it... The cost ends up being the same but I will not need any healing time. |

On Poydras I just saw a 55 year old guy in a Saints shirt jaywalk in front of cop while the cop was holding up his hand to stop him. The guy then says 'oh, don't be an ******* about it'. Smart. While I was crossing, (legally, I might add) that guy was emptying his pockets and looked like he might be there awhile. Moral: shut up and /or do the right thing. Or both |

I drove up to a police car with 3 guys there to ask "can we proceed down this road now?" One plain clothes ass-hole cop walks backwards into my car, I slammed by breaks going all of 2 mph, and he yells "WHAT ARE YOU INSANE! YOU TRIED TO RUN OVER ME" when I said CALMLY "I have a car full of 6 people and you deliberately walked backward into my car. I was driving 2 miles per hour toward your car to ask a question. Can we pass here?" When mister undercover "bad cop" decided to go ballistic, slam his hands on the hood of my car, and reached for his holster, another police office standing there who saw it all happen stopped him by putting his hand between him and my car and said "NO" and he calmly answered my question. Luckily, that day, the entire PD had NO RESPECT for the "bad cop" detective. On any other day, I could have been thrown in jail, unjustly, by someone abusing his authority. And there is the problem with police. It's not the good police at all. |

Re: Why Attend Games
Why attend games?
I am not commenting on the video because I did not even look at it. Why go to games? The game. It is much Nothing beats being there. It is more fun and exciting being at a game rather then seeing it on tv. You can see the whole play and the complete field of all the players being there and what is happening on the sidelines. Socializing with friends. A memory to have with your kids, family. Socializing with stadium seat neighbors. Helps your home team and the local economy. Having dinner before or after the game. Parking. Buying a Game Day $5.00 book. That still is really a good deal for the price. Buying some refreshments at the game. The atmosphere. A place to go and something to do. Being at a game is far better than watching it on tv. No, we all cannot go to the games because we don't live there anymore. Yes, the cost per season ticket holder is high. Some people who are not season ticket holders can make some games. As far me, I remember the years of my parents and their club going to the games. Monday night games, I remember so many and we and so many fans would eat at the Hyatt buffet and walk across to the Dome. The sights, sounds, smells. People wearing all their Saints clothes and some people get really done up-face painting, charactersetc. I remember one lean year of being a miserable Saints' fan, but still a fan, one lady who had seats in front of us said," Do you realize we have been here watching these people lose and all around us fans , people here have been born, grow up through school years, been married, finished college, finished high school, lives of the fans ..." It was funny. Seeing the same people , clubs and families , every year ...a lifetime. |
