Re: Why Attend Games
A little bit different perspective.
First off, the cop should have never hit him, but look at that cops forehead, see the cut and the blood? He is pissed and something tells me he was hit a few times, I also saw mention of a cop getting kicked in the groin.. He still should have never hit him, but I do understand. What the guy did initially doesn't matter, what matters is what he did after he was asked to leave. I have worked security at bars and concerts, any of you that are around my age 43 and frequented bars in Lafayette; Shannahans, Nite Caps, Makos, Bulldog, Plaza, Grant Street Dance Hall, have probably seen me, had your ID checked by me or been thrown out by me if you were acting up. Dont hate.. When you in a crowded environment trying to subdue and remove someone resisting; the number one priority is to get him up, wrapped, and out ASAP. You want that accomplished before his friends get restless and try to join in, you want him out before his drunk girlfriend is on your back and head like an angry spider-monkey on angel dust... You also want him out before he finds a way to get lose and injure someone else. I can honestly say that in all my years of throwing people out, I never hit anyone. If any of you remember that drink special sign that hung outside between the doors of Nite Caps, i was known for knocking that sign off its hook from the inside because while trying to run someone out I missed the door opening. oops. For all of you bad-azz mofo's, when you are asked to leave.. Just go. There is no scenario that ends up with you still standing at the bar finishing that drink, or talking to that girl. Sooner or later you will be out; its your choice whether you exit and go to the next bar of your own free will or leave with assistance and probably end up waiting the night for someone to bail you out. For the knights in shining armor that see a "domestic dispute", and want to intervene and be the hero... Never do it alone. She might be pissed and hating him at that moment but as soon as you put your hands on him she becomes that spider-monkey on YOUR back. Out come her teeth, finger nails, mace, bottle, anything she can find and its coming at you. |

Re: Why Attend Games
The bald cop on the left has some kind of cut on his head.
Maybe it's just the Mardi Gras background in me, but I was always taught, you touch a cop, you are getting a free ride downtown. DON'T TOUCH A COP. I do think it needs to be looked into and investigated, I'm certainly not condoning the violence, they have rules of engagement that need to be examined here to see if they were followed or if the force was excessive, but ....if you're a person, you can talk, you can even argue your case with him, but DON'T TOUCH THE COP. |

Re: Why Attend Games
change the title thread to Why go to games...if you are just going to act like an idiot.
were the cops excessive, yes? Have we seen 1000 times before what an antagonized cop will do? Yes. pay your money, enjoy the environment and the game, and you will more than likely leave on your own accord |

Well, I was going on and on about the cops this and the cops that and "that cop thinks this is Miami Vice", and on and on, and truthfully I was right. Small town cops with too much "movie cop" in him. But gramps said, "Son, you're right, and let's just assume the cop is exactly as you say. Did you ever stop to think - he's the one with the gun?" LOL. Point taken. It was neither the first nor the last time Gramps has schooled me like that. Now I know, for a fact, that people have negative feelings towards the police, and I even believe in many cases it is justified. STILL, not being a dickweed and doing what they tell you to do is an EXCELLENT way to minimize the damage. |

Re: Why Attend Games
I feel this way too. I still try to make at least one game a year though. Yeah, maybe the players look like ants from the high rafters, the beer is overpriced, the food sucks and it's far too expensive, but you have to think of it as a pilgrimage of sorts. it means even more to me now that I live far away.
