RG3 Soph. Slump or is he a Fraud?

I watched the game tonight and I don't have a answer to that question yet. I'm leaning to side of fraud to be honest. He definitely isn't the same I think he is playing scared. His legs were a big part of his game and now without them he looks like a below average QB all he does is throw the quick outs or he throws the ball deep down the field on a prayer. Washington ought to bench RG3 and see what Cousins can do. Washington isn't going anywhere anyway. IMHO a little bit of humble pie could be just what he needs. I know Washington wants to avoid a QB controversy but at this point what they got to lose.

They played into his strengths last season, quick screens, read options, getting rid of the ball quickly or just taking off

Now hes having to read the field properly, i think hes struggling

Re: RG3 Soph. Slump or is he a Fraud?

I usually won't throw a rookie sensation under the bus until after his third season, so yeah, I'm going with 'sophomore slump', for now. Of the four read-option/running QBs I lump together for comparison (RGIII, Kaepernick, Wilson, Newton), only Newton & Wilson seem to have avoided a serious tailing off in their second (Cam & Kaep's third) seasons. Why is that? Because they seem to have become comfortable and developed some sort of presence in the pocket. RGIII & Kaep haven't, so they're gonna' struggle until they do.

Vick is another one I think about when this topic comes up. Always exciting to watch, but if you look at his career, his stats are all over the place season-to-season.

Comes with the territory with these type of guys, IMO.

I've only seen a couple games, but what I saw was RG3 being completely engulfed by defenders on nearly every drop back. I doubt any QB could succeed with an O-line that awful.

I also believe the game passed Shanahan up several years ago.

I'm leaning toward sophomore slump. He really doesn't have much of a team around him.

Re: RG3 Soph. Slump or is he a Fraud?

I watched the game last night and I think a big factor is the playcalling and the lack of adjustments by Redskins offensive coordinator. The Niners 3-4 edge rushers were dominating last night and yet the Redskins kept calling the pistol and gun read-option stuff, making RG3 a sitting duck. They should put RG3 under center a lot more often and call runs to Morris to slow down the outside rush and get away from the predictability they have now with the pistol read-option stuff.

I know, it seemed like all of the Skins run plays took way too long to develop. That's easy pickin's for that 49er front 7 I thought they needed more quick hitters. At times it looked like their RB was lined up 10 yards behind center.

Slump.
But he will have to learn to live more in the pocket or his playing time will be short lived.

O-Line and not enough offensive weapons.

I'm glad Drew has so many to choo-choo-choose from!
