The offer sheet that restricted free-agent safety Rafael Bush signed with the Atlanta Falcons is worth $4.5 million over two years, a league source told The Advocate. The source also said Bush is hoping the New Orleans Saints won’t match the deal because Atlanta is offering a chance at a starting job.

Doesn't matter if we should match, if he wants to start then that ain't going to happen here, 4.5M is too much for a 3rd safety in our defense

Isn't any decent safety going to cost around $2M a year anyway? Why not retain a young guy that has shown promise instead of replacing him with a veteran that will likely cost about the same?

What veteran? We signed Marcus Ball to replace him at 3 year 1.5 million total around 500,000 a year

Hey, don't get me wrong, because I like to see the positives in all of our signings, too, but you're putting all of your eggs into the Marcus Ball basket? The guy that is so good that he spent the last two seasons in Canada? He's going to be our third safety on a team that likes 3 safety sets? Also, that's who we're going to count on if one of our starters goes down with an injury? During a "super bowl or bust" season? That's a lot of questions, but I just want to make sure I'm following you.

You can most certainly count on at least one more safety (probably a veteran) being added to this group. Why not Bush?

Because he wants to start and wouldn't get that opportunity here, he's already said that he doesn't want the Saints to match. And do you really want to pay a 3rd safety 2 million a year?

I don't really care about what he said. He'll play ball for whoever signs him. As for the money, I don't think any other reliable backup will cost much less. Maybe we bring Jim Leonhard back for cheap. It just seems to me that during what everyone is calling a "super bowl or bust" season you'd want a better backup plan at safety than a CFL project and some UDFA to be picked up at a later date.
