Hosting a Super Bowl will include giving up home game for London
A decision made last week points toward the notion of getting more teams to sacrifice home games for the benefit of feeding the increasing English appetite for American football. Daniel Kaplan of SportsBusiness Journal reports that the owners voted to require any team that hosts a Super Bowl to give up a home game to London at some point over a five-year period.

IDK, do the teams like travelling to London for those games? I would think most franchises wouldn't mind giving up the London game as prerequisite to hosting a SuperBowl. Game time for DET/ATL in London is something like 0930 ET ... where in the heck do ya' find a good sports bar open at 0930?

Maybe they could just move the Raiders to London and be done with it.

So let's punish the paying fans in order to line the owners' and NFL's pockets?
This is a TERRIBLE idea that stinks to high heaven. Completely shafting the ordinary season-ticket-holding people, who support their teams rain or shine, in order to push Goodell's international agenda. |

Re: Hosting a Super Bowl will include giving up home game for London
A full time team over here will not work long term. The best viewing figures we get are around 120/130k for games on tv. If a team moves here expect a attendance of 40-50k within a few years once the novelty wears off.
Who will want to watch a team that wont attract players in FA, will constantly loose its best players and have to vastly overpay players. Thats before tax implications and players getting visa issues with criminal records. Its called the NATIONAL football league for a reason. |
