Would be huge if we could land Collins.

LT Peat
LG Evans
C Unger
RG Collins
RT Armstead

OMG that would be a killer line.

Armstead is a pure LT.
Peat can play both but right now is probably better suited for RT.

Sorry but there is no law suit that can be filed.

Its the American way... you have to let the system run its course. And you are suppose to be innocent until proven guilty but as time goes by you are treated like the criminal and yet no charges are even filed against you. It isn't fair at all.

But you can see why no team would touch him because if he does get charges on him and convicted, then you have that stink on you. Your damned if you do and damned if you don't!

Now I would think that he would have a grievance against the NFL but not being drafted or even signed one contract and played one day in the NFL he doesn't get to file those.

Re: La'el Collins, What Do We Know?!?

Peat is only 21. He's not nearly grown to what he will be. Talent is obvious, potential massive, but his current play is still inconsistent. Mayock pointed this out in his analysis. I've watched some tape on him, and it shows him playing too high sometimes, and being overwhelmed with bull rushes more often than I'd like.

So this year, I think he competes for the the RT position, but Strief wins (this year, just this year). Peat spends time as the backup, learning the offense, and the strength coach hovers over his shoulder the whole time.

Men typically continue to grow until age 25/26. 21 is a long way short of that.

Re: La'el Collins, What Do We Know?!?

Playing field is pretty much level for anyone to sign Collins at this point. His potential salary and bonus should be equal on any contract offer to him. I would hope staying in Louisiana would be the tipping point in our favor. That would be the steal of the draft to not need to waste a draft pick on a likely first round talent and have him under contract for UDFA money.

Agreed if it is really that and not just the fear and avoidance of bad publicity.

Former LSU offensive tackle La'el Collins met with Baton Rouge (Louisiana) police Monday as part of the investigation to the murder of Brittany Mills.

Collins, who went undrafted over the weekend, is not a suspect in the case. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Collins met with Baton Rouge police for a little more than an hour. Mills, who was 29 years old and pregnant at the time of her death, had a previous relationship with Collins.

"It went fine; we answered all their questions," Collins' lawyer, Jim Boren, said via The Times-Picayune. "La'el is not going to make any comments. I'm not going to have any comments. The investigation is going to continue. La'el is now going to start making an effort to start getting his football career back on track."

Re: La'el Collins, What Do We Know?!?

OverTheCap.com pointed out that rules state Collins is locked into signing a three-year deal as an undrafted free agent, for the minimum salaries of $435,000 in 2015, $525,000 in 2016, and $615,000 in 2017. Teams get less than $100,000 total to spend on signing bonuses for all undrafted free agents each season, OverTheCap.com said. Collins would be a restricted free agent at the end of that contract. He can't reapply for the 2016 draft after not being taken in 2015. His options, even if teams start bidding on his services, are extremely limited and not good for a player who might have gone in the top 15 if the draft was about a week earlier.

I know that we are strong contenders on landing him. He is getting a free meal from Rex right now. Listen, he said it would be a dream to play for the Saints. It's hard for me to see us not signing him soon.

Operation "Deez Nutz" is in full force. To answer your question, precisely. He will fetch offers from other teams but I just don't see us not counter offering his best offer to play in the BnG. May the 4th be with you :lightsabres:

Not currently considered a suspect and cleared are two very different things. I would expect him to be ruled out as a suspect eventually, but until he is he may not be signed. I sure hope the Saints are recruiting him hard.

Re: La'el Collins, What Do We Know?!?

As I understand it there is a certain limit on how much a team can offer an UDFA under the CBA. We could't offer him a $5mil deal for example. Could a wealthy businessman offer him an endorsment deal if he signed with a certain team?

I think it will come down to where he feels comfortable going. It will also depend on wether he views himself as a guard or a tackle. If he wants to play tackle we can scratch him off our list because then he will go to a team with less competition.

lee909 05-05-2015 01:59 AM

Re: La'el Collins, What Do We Know?!?

A wealthy business man offering deals would surely be a violation/manipulation of the cap.

He has to sign for the UDFA contract but can renegotiate in two years. The big issue i read yesterday is the advantage that teams in Miami and Texas hold as there is no state tax

Re: La'el Collins, What Do We Know?!?

Get the feeling that Collins would rather play tackle over guard because of the pay day, tender issue that he'll arrive at a year sooner because of the path his draft experience has taken...

We may be out of it for that reason...

The fact that Saints officials haven't met with him yet is another consideration...

The only position that may be available on our line would be at right guard with Evans' age, cap number; and we do pay our guards well...

Or he beats Lelito out in this camp; I'm in Team Lelito's camp and think he'll be great get as a starter...

Should Collins come in and compete at Tackle and win out, he could allow for a trade of either Strief or Armstead with the latter the only player to gain significant value...

Re: La'el Collins, What Do We Know?!?

Rumor has it that's he wants to get out of LA and experience what else is out there since he's been here his whole life. 3 former Tigers on that Dolphin team and Buffalo is courting him hard as well. I'm going to guess Miami.

I sad.

Re: La'el Collins, What Do We Know?!?

"For Collins, that presents an opportunity to attempt to receive a three-year guarantee of $1,575,000," wrote NFL salary expert Jason Fitzgerald Sunday on his Over The Cap website. "That guarantee would be equivalent to a late second rounder's guarantee through his signing bonus and salary guarantee."

If Collins plays well in his first two seasons, he could opt out of the third year of his contract and get a much more lucrative extension.

Undrafted La'el Collins targeted by several NFL teams

$1,575,000 is chump change for this gamble. take it.

strong selling point for the saints. 2017 is not a cap strapped year. that is the year of the roll over baby.

with 1.5 mill he can buy a few condo all around the country and live where ever he wants in the off season and still be close to mom during the season. ;)

Right and that's what the fear for Saints fans all along has been...

Bet you hit it on the head and that he'd been our first round pick before the Adam Schefter report started this melt-down...

He's supposed to have an air-tight alibi; he was at a New Orleans Pelicans home game planned in advance with family, friends days before...

The only way he could be connected in a negative light to all this is if he somehow conspired with the tragic murder...

If someone close to him acted on his behalf without his knowledge, he still could get some negative public blowback...

Ask one question. did you do it? answers no then

sign the 1.5 million and all the benifits you can up with. insurance housing cars whatever :p

1.5 mill in dead cap money is not that big of a deal over two years for what the pay off could be. the guy just does not have the list of off the field problems to think he did it. solid gamble in my book.

less of a gamble than some of the other problem children drafted this year.
