One thing I'd like to see...

If La'el Collins needs some cash to pay back the money his agent(s) are fronting him - it's there...

Reality TV...

20' X 20' room - secured, with La'el Collins and Adam Schefter in the room...

Name of the Show - Why you Sweatin' My PayCheck, Bro?!?

WWL Kattengill said the Saints WILL NOT sign Collins, stating that Payton has some info on the case.

Fantasy Football Breaking News - Rotoworld.com

"Profootballtalk reports teams can't officially meet with LSU G/T La'El Collins until May 9. It explains why the Dolphins are sending only players, and not coaches or executives. It's unclear how Bills coach Rex Ryan was able to host Collins for dinner. It means the race for Collins might not really heat up until Saturday."

Every restaurant in Louisiana he has dinner in should say:

Why couldnt we draft him in the seventh? If he does go to jail you wasted a seventh round pick big whoop Rooks didnt even make the team most seventh rounders dont only a select few but you kno he's a first round talent and a beast. The reward is greater than the risk. Now if gets his name clear you gotta fight prolly all 32 teams for him.

Because he'd be able to sit out one year and re-enter the draft next year

If he was drafted and then sat out a season, he'd be eligible.
Since he wasn't drafted, he's not eligible.

The only that is sure is that until he signs, apparently no one knows what's going on:

there were reports that he met with Ryan. Guess those aren't true

Re: La'el Collins, What Do We Know?!?

And the plot thickens:

Quote:

Ex-LSU football star La'el Collins has told police he has an airtight alibi in the murder of the pregnant woman suspected of carrying his child ... TMZ Sports has learned.
Sources close to the investigation tell us ... Collins -- who was a projected 1st round NFL draft pick before the double murder -- spoke with investigators and said he has witnesses and phone records that prove he was nowhere close to Brittney Mills on the night she was gunned down.

His agents said they wouldn't sign after the fourth round also (?) I'd of gambled a 7th on him, :).

Actually a smart move on his part. if drafted and signed he is stuck in the standard rookie contract locked in for 3 to 4 years with and option year still hanging over his head.

By going undrafted, he signs as a UDFA picking his team and can redo his contract as yearly as the end of the second year. 1.75 mill is not much compared to a first rounder but his pay day all rookies wait for comes 2 to 3 years earlier than every one else drafted

so Lloyd of London here he comes for those first two years and insures the heck out of himself. then payday before every player drafted.

say what they want about the agent. I say Smart move.

now give him all he wants and sign this kid. guarantees all day long

Re: La'el Collins, What Do We Know?!?

Other than being drafted in the 1st round the absolute best for him was not to be drafted at all. Now he signs with whom ever he wants and can renegotiate his deal after 2 years, if he was drafted he would have to wait at least 3. All the rest of that stuff about players drafted between this number and that number will not apply if he's as good as advertised.
Teams could have drafted him and it would have been his choice to sign or not but he loses in the long run if that team decides to hold the right to him for as long as possible.
I wish this man all the best if he's is totally cleared in any wrongdoing, he definitely didn't deserve this but he has to take a little responsibility by not making himself available when requested.

If it were me, and I was innocent, I would make a statement, regardless of the draft. Look, I had nothing to do with her death and her unborn child. The last time I spoke with her was _______ and the child is not (or is mine). I want whoever did this brought to justice and will cooperate in anyway that helps to achieve that result.

He didn't do any of this, only saying he has an alibi from what I have read. Guess what? Not being around the crime scene is not saying you had nothing to do with it.

Maybe. But I've learned a little bit about our legal system through my extremely unpleasant divorce - and perhaps the most important thing I've learned through it all is the value of "Radio Silence".

Anything you say can AND WILL be used against you. Lawyers suck. They're trained to spin. Guilty or otherwise (and I sure hope otherwise regardless of where he lands), he's best to go radio silent, and his lawyer is wise for seeing to it.

Beastmode 05-06-2015 04:05 PM

Re: La'el Collins, What Do We Know?!?

I get that part about radio silence but there are some general statements he could have made. He never said anything other than he has an alibi. What about wanting to find who did it? Grief for their family? Nope. Nothing. If not for that, who knows, maybe he gets drafted. All I know is that if I was accused of it in the media I would clear my name with or without the police. I don't need the police to tell me I'm not a killer.

I personally think his agent has advised him really badly.

They have come across as arrogant and looking for money.

But why? There is exactly zero value in his making any statement. I'm not suggesting what you suggest is a mistake, only that he need not make any such statement - there is no value in it, legally, for him.

He has problems right now much larger than an NFL contract, and I'm sure the teams might have appreciated the statement you suggest, but legally any statement could ONLY be used against him. I'm guessing his lawyer told him to keep his mouth closed. It's the smart thing to do.

Re: La'el Collins, What Do We Know?!?

I say make him an offer, a good one. It would be like getting a fee top 15 pick for even less of a cap hit. If hes guilty then it will come out and he will be jailed. No harm done.
I am definitely all for giving him an interview and feeling him out.

I don't see a case there, it's just business & the NFL didn't do anything to cause his decline in value.

The 32 NFL teams that did not draft him cannot be found culpable ... what did they do other than avoid him for possible future legal issues?

The police for investigating him and/or naming him a person-of-interest in his baby-mama's murder? IDK if there would be a case there either ... they're just doing their job as part of a murder investigation.

It's kinda' an odd situation and maybe the NFL is erring on the side of caution, but in today's NFL climate, they sorta' have to, IMO.

Just one of those situations the guy is gonna' have live through ... at least there's some light at the end of the tunnel in that there will still be some lucrative NFL contracts and an NFL career available to him when it's all cleared up.

But yeah, I agree, ... if there's a way for an attorney to build a case outta' this one, they're undoubtedly working on it as we speak,.

The NFL isnt liable, hes got nothing there, they were just protecting their investments. If he has a shot at going after anyone it will be the state for defamation of character maybe. Even that will make teams shy away because it will create a media circus and they could see it as a distraction. The NFL didnt do anything to him.
Its just an unfortunate incident.

It probably could be important. Say it was an unwanted child, that could probably have been have been seen as a motive.
