Really dislike Cam Newton but....

I really dislike the big deal the media made of him walking out of the presser. The only reason I say this is because I'd probably defend any player put in that situation, but come on... he just lost the Superbowl... of course hes going to be upset. He was obviously heavily invested in winning, and when you get that close and lose.... it obviously is hard to deal with. The media has this tendency to try to shape people, make them all respond the same exact way to the same exact things. It's really annoying.

Go back and look at the post game interview of Russell Wilson last year after a crushing defeat to the Pats in last years SB. He stood tall and faced the media with class and professionalism.

People (media/fans etc) judge players by actions and attitude. Cam still lacks maturity.

Perception is reality.

That's just dumb. Cam Newton isn't Russel Wilson, he shouldn't be expected to act like Russel Wilson. It's obvious that Cam Newton is a far more emotionally invested person, whereas Russel Wilson seems rather detached. They are nothing alike, and I feel like there are many well respected guys in the league that would have done similar things to what Cam Newton did. I'm not even really sure why we are even relating Cam Newton to Russell Wilson.

Agreed! I understand that this was a difficult moment for Scam, but a Professional acts like he must, not how he feels. His actions showed he has a lot of growing up to do. The way he acted in the presser would have been unacceptable for a 10 year old.

The only "dumb" one here is Cam. Most players & MVP's carry them selves as professionals at all times regardless of circumstance.. Especially at the QB position. It was all gravy when he was winning.

You missed the point but he can go back to Carolina and sulk, pout and crawl under his rock this off season. He'll eventually grow up.

It's not about being Russel Wilson or any other person. It's about being a professional, as so many others have said. There are certain things expected of all adults, not just athletes. When you've been anointed as the "leader" of your team, you don't act like that. The Superbowl is NOT more important than any big moment in a regular person's life. It's just perceived that way because it's a national and, to an extent, global event.

The point there being is that there are far worse things that can happen to a person than losing the Superbowl. Yeah, you should be disappointed, and it's understandable to be dejected. But just answer the questions and deal with the rest of your emotions later. It will pass. Nobody died out there.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Whether or not he should have answered the questions isn't the point. The point is he's a person, and not everyone is going to react the same way to things that happen. People do things in the spur of the moment. There have been several times that Tom Brady didn't even shake the opposing teams hands after losses. People get emotional about things and they react. Nobody is going to be the perfect soldier all the time... it's just a dumb idea.

Answering the questions IS the point because it has everything to do with this incident in question. You're saying that everyone reacts differently, and that's true. His "different way" happened to be about the worst way he could have reacted. When you act like a spoiled child you earn that perception. It isn't given, it is earned.

You brought up Tom Brady not shaking hands. That's poor sportsmanship as well. That example doesn't help you in defending Cam. Cam gets more attention regarding his attitude because it has been a consistent problem with him. He's a fair weather personality.

I'm not asking him to be the perfect soldier. He wasn't merely imperfect. He acted like a pouting child. And HE has been carrying a phony chip on his shoulder about what people say about him. When you do that, you open yourself up even more.

If you think that's the worst way he could have acted, you haven't been watching sports long enough.

I said "about" the worst way he could have reacted. The guy just up and walked out. He completely avoided the spotlight when the going got bad. Yet we all know how much he made it about himself leading up to the game.

How much worse of a reaction could he have? Really, within reason? We're not talking about shooting everybody in the room.
