49ers suspend broadcaster over Lamar Jackson comments

this is a discussion within the NFL Community Forum; Actually I don't get it. Why did he get suspended and what was offensive? From my Point of view, Jackson has a quite dark skin color, I'm Scandinavian so simply in comparison to myself. I don't understand how pointing that ...

From my Point of view, Jackson has a quite dark skin color, I'm Scandinavian so simply in comparison to myself. I don't understand how pointing that out would be inappropriate. There will be a difference in contrast/visibility of the football and the skin of the athlete, thats just natural. If it has any effect on the game, that's a completely different story.

W.T. Sherman is my favorite General. After all he did order Atlanta to be burned to the ground.

Welcome to the American Speech Police class. First lesson: Everything is offensive.

Congratulations! You've completed the course! Now, shhh... Keep your voice down, someone's feelings might get hurt.

But seriously, I'll say this about it. He comes off sounding a little dumb, because it's not like this is the first black QB to run a zone-read. For that matter, most players who touch the ball are going to be black. Not many white dude's carrying the ball. So yeah, his skin color might make it harder to find the ball, technically speaking, but not to the point that I think it makes a huge difference. It was just kind of a silly thing to say, in my opinion.

But to suspend him over it? That's the speech police at it again.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Context. That's what got the guy suspended, pending investigation. And he may have legitimately meant no harm, but this Nation is hypersensitive about language right now...

But as a professional broadcaster, he's held to a higher standard therefore facing the consequences of being careless. Maybe he thought as a Nation we'd mature, if so, his calculus would be wrong...

Thirty-five years ago, a joke about a San Fran streaker, the religious extreme would've had their pound of flesh as well. Advertisers are scared of the unknown, and right now it's others holding that bag of tricks...

Personally, my issue is with censorship and drilling someone over one comment when there's a breadth of history where the announcer hasn't done this before. Too me, that's the real danger to our Republic...
