Re: NFL Rating Down
Regardless. I never moved my stake. NFL ratings would be down and they are. I will even double down. They will be down the entire year from last year considerably.
You've already moved your stake. Said they would not be. |

Re: NFL Rating Down
Why was it important for you to say they would not be. Maybe just own it and move on instead of making tortured excuses on why you were wrong. I was going off fantasy participation alone. If that is down viewership will be down. I never mentioned any other reason. It's common sense. You were also wrong about all shows viewership being down but whatever. Keep making your hole deeper. Just makes you look bitter and spiteful. |

You do make one good point, however. Fantasy and sports betting do draw a sizable audience to the NFL. With the ongoing pandemic and uncertainty surrounding the NFL season there had to have been a drop in participation of the first and with sports books down it would lower the second, as well. |

Re: NFL Rating Down
Networks were exposed for lying to the American public re: suppression polls in 2016 elections, so why wouldn't they lie about their viewership share?
They've got a monetary interest to show the numbers are up in leverage with potential advertisers, they're just not going to be forthcoming... I've a small business where I interact with a couple hundred folks every two weeks, it's kinda of a ole barbershop feel in the Will Call Counter with a very diverse group of people... In the two weeks leading up to the HOU vs KC game, as well as the Saints Opener, it was a constant complaint of folks saying they weren't watching the Saints... While I expected some negative remarks, didn't expect it to the level it was; and I've got Saints, Red Sox, Celtics memorabilia (which I considered politically neutral till recent events) clearly on display... Even if half those folks were full of sh*t and ended up watching the game, there was still a healthy sampling (at least more than networks sampling in their conference rooms) that the NFL has a problem... It's a fool's errand to defend the numbers if they're up because the networks have a history of no credibility and have compromised integrity as they've got a monetary interests to boost themselves... The only thing that you'd have to notice is if they admitted viewership is down amid a pandemic when, if anything, folks aren't working, home on Sunday and numbers should be way up and they're not watching... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Sure the numbers are down. I've heard people say they weren't going to watch, as well. Some have even said they want to hit the NFL in its pocketbook where it hurts. That's the whole point I have been making all along. These people do not realize that the NFL's revenues are tied to advertising dollars. Advertising dollars are not tied to overall viewership numbers as some believe. They are tied to relative viewing numbers. Companies have advertising budgets and they are going to spend that money. The programming that they spend that money on are the shows that are the highest rated as opposed to others. Even with reduced overall viewership the NFL still blows all other programming out of the water. They are going to continue to receive the ever increasing advertising dollars for that reason alone. While final numbers were down 7.2% for the opening game last Thursday, revenues for that game were up over 10% over the previous opening Thursday. Fine, if someone wants to not watch the NFL for philosophical reasons, then good for them and I support their freedom to do so. But, to think that they are sticking it to the NFL by not watching they are spinning their wheels. One must also realize that most all of these advertisers are all onboard with the current political agendas. Some ten percent of the normal viewing population bowing out isn't going to affect their numbers, either. The group they target are the 18-49 demographic. That's what drives their numbers. Tuning out may hurt the NFL's pride, but it most certainly will not affect their bottom line to any material degree. However, that could be done through stopping branded merchandise purchases, I suppose. When they have to mark that stuff down I can get mine cheaper! |

" But it’s also clear that many of the people who once watched the league are, for whatever reason, finding something else to do with their Sundays." Does anyone have any ideas what the reason could be? It is a mystery, for some, apparently. |
