Yeah i read once that quite a few of the top artists didn,t read music sheets but played by "ear".
Still early days of learning for me and starting with the basics of 12 bar blues, and simple rock and blues progressions.Enjoying it though.

I play piano. I also built a home studio and I do a lot of DAW work and synth work for songs. I'm actually close to finishing off a track I've been working on so I'll have to let you guys know when the demo is ready.

Re: Playing musical instument?

I play:

Guitar (Mainly. 8-years, but that's kind of skewed because I'll go months without picking it up.)
Bass
Synth
Drums
Sing (Not well. My voice is too "punk." Think Johnny Rotten-style - off key.)

I pretty much do it all, but I only really do guitar WELL. For the most part, though, I'm a Producer. I used to play in a band (two of the members moved, so we shut it down) in the Lafayette area.

I play pretty much every genre. If I'm playing guitar, I love Punk, Blues, and Metal. If I'm playing drums or synths, it's normally Experimental, Psychedelia, and Jazz. Lately, though, I've been spending a lot of time producing an ambient, artistic sound work - which, consists mainly of a lot of noise and static. Most would put it in the Noise genre. And, I'm also in the process of producing a friend of mine's Rap album. It's kind of a satire album, more of a joke than anything.

Yeah...

Re: Playing musical instument?

I took 8 years of piano and voice lessons years ago and can't play a note now. I have been know to get up and sing with a few bands though.Had a good time doing it when the chance arose. Now,, mostly I play the radio, if and when I can find the knobs.
