Plasma, LCD, Projection?!?!?

I need some tv help guys. I've got the ole ballanchain against the ropes, and she's agreed to a new tv. I started off asking of a flat screen... 27 inches... $500 range. Then I moved to the projection screen, 40-50 inch... $1500 range (size and price varies according to brand, of course). Yesterday, when we were at Best Buy (the greatest store EVER), we saw a Daewoo (sp?) plasma, 41 or 42 inch for around $2200. I made my pitch, and she's THINKING about it! What I need to know is whether or not the brand can be trusted? Is plasma worth the cash? Are projection tvs dinosaurs? Do the pictures hold up?

Throw it at me. What tvs do you have? Would you buy them again? What's the best for the cash? etc.

Help a brother out.

Don\'t know too much about it, but from all accounts, I would avoid the Plasma. I heard that the screen usually fails after about 2-3 years. Unless you\'re made of money and want to drop that amount of cash that often avoid it. LCD usually has a screen life of 5-7 years.
That\'s about all I know.
Isn\'t Tweeky/Danno into this type of stuff?

I have a degree in electronics and used to work on some TV\'s back in the day. Plasma is relatively new so I don\'t know a whole lot about them. Technology is changing so fast now, it could be outdated soon. First you had CathoRay tubes. Then projection. Then LCD (liquid Crystal Diode) TV\'s. Now Plasma.

I\'ve heard nothing but good things about plasma. But, I can tell you for SURE, you better pick the brand carefully. Daewoo has always been a very CHEAP brand. They all use pretty much the some components (except sony) but it\'s the way they are schematically designed. And some of \'em (such as Daewoo) do use substandard parts. Best bet is to look at some consumer guides and check the warranty carefully.

Check such things as: Do they have a local repair shop? Do you have to box it up and ship it off?

I used to work for Sharp Electronics and they\'ve always been cutting edge. RCA is good too. Phillips is another good one. I would stay away from Daewoo.

If i were you, I\'d go Sony. Brands like Daewoo and APEX and so on, jumped on the plasma bandwagon, just searching for scraps. The Wega series is outstanding. There are alot of factors that go into choosing the correct TV for your home. The best thing about the Wega\'s is the glare on them, there\'s virtually none. If you are putting it in a room with windows or lots of light, definately go Wega. Go and look at the TV\'s from the side, and look at the screen, you\'ll see what I mean.

My buddy recently got a nice new Sony flat screen HD and honestly, there\'s not much difference than my four year old 63\' projection.

I have a 25\" Daewoo tv, but it is not a HD or anything. I\'ve had it for about 8 years and it\'s never given me any trouble. Also, I bought it as a clearance display unit so I\'m sure it ran all day everyday for a while before I purchased it.

If that is substandard, then it\'s still acceptable to me. Like I said, though, it\'s not an HD or anything, but it has been a good purchase.
