New law bans city contractors from asking job seekers at the start about criminal history
Starting in March, companies that do business with City Hall can no longer require prospective employees to list their criminal histories on job applications and must conduct at least one in-person interview before inquiring about any past misdeeds.

Well that makes perfect sense. We don't want to offend anyone by bringing up their offenses. Wouldn't want them to feel bad about themselves if they've broken the law at any point.
