Brees Additional Injuries
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees played through more pain than anyone realized in 2020. On top of 11 broken ribs and a collapsed lung, Brees played through the season with a torn rotator cuff and a torn fascia (connective tissue) in his foot.
That information was revealed by Brees’ wife Brittany, who revealed the extent of her husband’s injuries on Instagram. While people knew about Brees’ rib and lung injuries, his torn rotator cuff and torn fascia went unreported during the season. RE: Brittany Brees Instagram |

Re: Brees Additional Injuries
I hate this time of year when it's like "I only played bad because of this."
No one can question Brees' toughness and no one would, he's played through so much. But if he was dealing with that much, then he probably wasn't the right person to go into the playoffs with. |

Re: Brees Additional Injuries
Agreed. But, no one as competitive as Brees is going to take himself out of the game. If Payton new about all of this and still had him on the field, then that's on Payton.

Re: Brees Additional Injuries
Oh yeah 100%, I feel Payton was probably so caught up in the Farewell Tour stuff, that he couldn't see Brees holding the offense back.

Brees put it all on the line for us. Team put it all on the line for him. This was a "Last Dance" approach (expect our coach is staying). It didn't work, but at least we tried. Cap-wise and all that, we'd still be in this same boat even if we did win it all. Fans and critics would probably be more upset if we had not gone into "Win Now" mode. I don't see a problem.

Re: Brees Additional Injuries
My concern with this sort of thing is you could see it being used as a reason for just one more go. A bad last game, going out on a crappy game and you could see Drew waking up in a few weeks and going again.
Love the guy and he has been truely one of the greatest ever to play the game but another year would be a mistake imho. |

Re: Brees Additional Injuries
If Teddy Bridgewater or Alex Smith had been the Saints starting QB when they sustained their big injury, they would still have started in the playoffs, even if we had a backup who just as good a recent record or recently led the league in passing.

Re: Brees Additional Injuries
He was still our best bet. He should have sat out for the KC game. I have no doubt he has the skills and ability to go another year and perform at a very high level. Unfortunately his body had different plans and he would just wind up hurt again.

I have seen it to much in other sports when fighters, players i have loved watching compete just going on a couple of years beyond what they should physcially and it just gets ugly and leaves a bit of a tarnish on their legacy for many. For what he doen he would deserve it, but for the team it would push everything back a year for nothing and you are wasting a year of young players |
