If you where talking about the Brees of 2017 then yes, 100%, a 2 year extension and spread the money over the cap. The arm strength wasn't 2009-2011 but more than good enough. The last 2 years its not been there and the great accuracy can't cover that up.

I agree with the majority here. After seeing the end of the game with Brees walking off the field and him playing on the field with his kids, it's time for closure - for him more than us. The last game may have been a sour note, but he can apply that get-even to his next passion - broadcasting or whatever.

Absolutely. Drew is still our best option. Only issue is the wr position. MT has become a cancer and we have all heard rumors of his trade. Cooks catches on avg 1 out of every 92 balls thrown to him. Trade MT, pay drew significantly less and get him another ring. Resign those needed and bring in some wr help.

If there is absolutely no threat to go over the top, all teams will play us in a box and make us beat them over the top, which we simply cannot do with Brees anymore.
He used to destroy teams that played zone coverage, especially cover 2 with seam routes. That part of his game have been non existent the last 3 years. |

He's 42, 13 anchors in his shoulder, strap on his throwing thumb, rotator cuff (those rarely heal), 11 ribs, etc. I wish he could but don't think he will ever be "healthy" as a QB again. It kind of started with the pulled oblique a few years ago. He would make one heck of a back up QB for us but I don't think his mindset would allow him to take on the role.

Re: How many want a healthy Brees back next year?
I agree with most of the people here. The team has done what they could the pass few years to try to give brees as much talent around him as he's ever had (offense and defense).
However, it's not enough anymore. Even when he's 100% healthy he can no longer make the downfield throws. It started 3-4 years ago when he could still get the ball downfield but the accuracy on those throws was declining. Now, getting the ball more than 20 yards downfield is a struggle and requires our receivers to dive or stop entirely to catch his dying passes. Then there is the inevitable health issues where he's missing multiple games every year now due to injuries. That's why the organization has really been prioritizing known quantities at the backup qb spot There's also the other elephant in the room. Brees has not had an exceptional game in the playoffs for some time now. He's has some ok to good games but nothing too noteworthy. Brees will forever be my favorite football player for reasons on and off the field but it's time he accepts the handshake from father time on a job well done and move on. |
