No, Hill was restricted. Winston is unrestricted.

So the only option is Taysom or a rookie?

Yikes

They could find a way to pay him but the big question is "Is it in the long term interest to add void years and pay that money over a number of years". This year has really proven that pushing money into the future expecting the cap to jump on new deals comes with massive risks if it doesn't.

They knew it prior to this year, in which his mouth proved he valued I as opposed to team, and was injured and then fought with teammates. This year he was sharply over paid and over valued.

Put another vote for the Stafford side...

The one year thing scares me. If we are going to actually give him a legitimate chance to start, if he balls out in 2021 he's going to want 30-40 just next year and could leave if he doesn't get it from us. I could stomach 12-15 mil in a 3 year contract.

I didn't like bringing him in, and I didn't want to see him as our starter but you make a good point, he's probably the best bang for the buck we're going to get for what we'll be able to pay. I say give him the 3yr and let it be an open competition with him and Taysom.

Look into Cooks numbers:
3 years with Drew Brees 20 TD longest in NO 50, 71, 98 Declining arm
1 year with Brady 7 TD longest in NE 64 good arm
2 years with Goff 7 TD longest in LA 57 strong arm
1 year with Watson 6 TD longest in HO 57 cannon arm
4 year TD total: 20 TD

He's done no better with non declining arms. In fact took him one more year to equal his stay in NO.

Speculation is that Detroit wants a 1st & a player for Matthew. Highland Park is 32 years old with a body in decline. Mentally, he may have checked out.

Big gamble right there.

No way would I trade picks for Stafford or Watson. I’d keep them, replenish talent, and bet on Winston. Only QB I would trade for would be Rodgers.

The issue is that 'finding a way' this season also diminishes a need for him. Stripping the team of any talent to have a decent QB is really a net zero exercise.

Brandin Cooks has a bad attitude and an overblown view of his worth. He could have been like Tyreek Hill, but he isn’t as tough. Despite his observation of Brees being accurate, he doesn’t want us observing and dissecting his play.
