What good is a 3-4 (J) backer in a predominantly 4-3 defense though? Dennis Allen is on record as stating “I’m an 11 best players” guy wrt defensive scheme, which cause some uncertainty in what positions in defensive personnel, draft including, are prioritized. The last couple years, it seems the Saints have played more 4-2-5 than 3-4, right?

Have my eyes failed me? Am I wrong?

Right on & no you aren't wrong.

Small sample size but what I've seen from Baun, I've liked. He's excelled on special teams & when inserted into the starting lineup he has made tackles on those boundaries (sidelines).

Puzzles me that he didn't have a lot of playing time. But yes, I'm right there with you. Why draft guys you aren't going to use? Dennis Allen's scheme is frustrating.

All I can see is that he was on a 2020 roster full of talent & no full pre season to shine.

Maybe 2021 will be different for ZBaun. Again, I'm a fan of his play.

As far as I know, Baun was potentially going to play Mike LB. I don’t know if that plan is still in place or not.

Saw this and did t watch any of Bolton in college.

More than concerned by the write up though, smacks of Stephone Anthony

Bolton is slightly undersized for the position and hasn’t quite shown the top end speed to compensate, but he has the skills, smarts

We need the speed at LB, only need to look at the rest of the South and they way they have LB that fly.

What are the chances the Saints go cornerback in the 1st?

Looking at Janoris Jenkins cap number next season, I don't see how he takes a paycut or the Saints retaining him.

He could end up a cap casualty. If he leaves, CB position becomes a need for us.

Thoughts?

CB, FS, DE, DT

All need filled.

Cant rely on Davenport getting through a season.
Unlikely Williams is back
Rankins a possibility if he doesn't get the offers he wants

And plenty of questions at CB with Lattimore deal and Jack rabbits cap.
Lattimore is going to want to be the best paid CB in football. Not sure I'd make him that to be honest. On his day he is as good as anyone but too often he plays up or down to the level of his opponent.

That's why I listed Jaycee Horn (yes, for those that don't know it's Joe Horn's son)...

Look, that's just me; I see him excelling in that (Jack) position...

Could he play Sam, Mike or Will? Sure. But I think you put this guy in as a Jack, he could devastate one side of the field, reach his full potential...

In fact, I'd go so far as to say that Anzalone would probably make a better 3-4 LBer just to reduce some of his reads/assignments so he could just turn loose his athleticism...

In fact, after taking Anzalone, I thought we might be working our way back to a 3-4 with Cam slowing down, then we went and took Davenport with two ones and a fifth...

Now, if we were playing old pass defense rules, I'd love to see Baun used in a 46, that'd be real exciting to see...

But he just didn't seem as fluid in space as our LBers (e.g. Davis and Kwon) need to be in our nickel, heavy nickel, dime packages...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Agreed, a playmaker is a playmaker is a playmaker. I understand that logic. Kinda like if the Saints were to sign a speedy veteran WR to get past the secondary quick, fast and in a hurry, yet have a QB that either is unable to deliver a deep ball or is more often than not extremely hesitant to even try. The WR would still be a baller..., but not in the situation he would presently be in.

Don’t we show 46 every now and then, but substituting an additional SS at the line, instead of a pure (J) LBer? It’s a 46 look though, right? lol, sometimes it worked, Jenkins had 2.5 sacks at that pos’n (effectively) last season. One more than either Rankins or Davenport. Sorry, couldn’t resist leaving you with Two 1sts on your mind on my way out.
