Add to that Sportsrac has the Seahawks with 28ml in dead money this year

How does a team get hit with dead cap for trading a player + their contract? I'm asking because I don't know.

When a player is traded the unrecognized already paid money becomes dead cap for the home tea,=m as they paid the player.

There is a possibility of the 2021 salary cap dropping to 175M, which would add 23.2M to the Saints cap hell. .

Not anymore. They officially raised the minimum cap figure to $180 million last week based upon higher than projected revenues and new TV contract projections. I've heard it should come in higher than that when made official. The figure being mentioned was in the $185 million range. Still not great, but better than expected.

I think they would most likely want an offensive lineman. Restructure and send them Peat. Or Armstead.

I will take any help they give us. $10million can turn into one or two players that you either sign or don't have to cut.

As starters or quality backups, yes. But they are few and far between to fill out a quality roster. It will always take a majority of veterans leading the way on successful teams. Those will have to come through free agency at least in part.

Some teams draft better than others, depends on the staff and coaches who'll listen...

Yes they do, but their success in drafting is still consisting of far more misses than hits over time. THAT is the nature of the beast. I'll give you that there are outlier years where the majority of picks turn out well.

Hey, we already hosed them once in the Graham/Unger trade.

You better believe "if" Seattle is truly listening to any offers from New Orleans, Ryan Ramzyck name would be a part of that trade scenario.

My response to Seattle … "package anyone else on that O line except Ramz".

I’d like to have Wilson as starting QB. I’d understand giving up the picks and player(s) to get him. I just don’t see if they pulled the deal off how they could afford re-signing him and still be able to keep the team viable without the influx of low salary draft picks to the roster. Filling out roster positions is gonna be tough through free agency.

I say the same thing every year and we still wind up signing bigger named FA with a lil room to spare. I’m not so worried about the cap, somehow Loomis is able to get it done. It’s always “you can only kick the ball so far down the road before it hits a wall” yet here we are still in contention.

Brees is still signed right? Why not throw him in the mix as a one year stop gap while mentoring a young draft pick?

That's what I've been promoting all along. If that shoulder heals up this off-season he's still better than over 2/3rd's of the starting QB's in the league today.

Me neither. I wonder what the other three option were. I just saw this image shared on my FB feed.

Re: Russell Wilson

Do that and the Saints finish next season with about 3 sacks and a secondary getting torched.

Oh and i doubt Wilson would be happy leaving a terrible offensive line to join a team that will be likely playing Hurst and Peat at Tackle after Armstead picks up his yearly injury.

With the numbers needed to get Wilson or Watson i would much rather see if the Cowboys jump at one of them or fail to get a deal with Dak.

Im still going to push that Sean Payton could work wonders with Gardner Minshew and at under 1ml a year for the next 2 years it doesn't stop you looking at the market and draft either

Do a similar deal and trade Armstead instead

Not sure if you were aware but Armstead has been available & has played in more games than tumbleweed Peat over the last three seasons.

As for Dak, Stephen will slap the 2nd tag (costly)if needed but he's not leaving Dallas.

I doubt it but if they think they have to go down the tag route i do think they might contact both Texans and Seahags and see if they can get a deal done and potentially let Dak walk and get a 3rd round comp or sign and trade now.

I know Peat health is awful, but he has little trade value, Armstead does

Re: Russell Wilson

No way in hell I’d want to give up Ram. Russel would be coming into the same situation he’s trying to get out of. The more I think about it the more I’m turned off. He’s basically acting like Watson and whining because he can’t get his way. I don’t want the NFL turning into the NBA. I’ve been pretty vocal about the Watson thing and I’m not going to change my stance on the issue just because it suddenly benefits me.
Then again if it gets us to the Super Bowl **** it.

With everything going on in Seattle, the mayor is worried about their QB and begging for another chance at an NBA franchise. Sounds about right.

He's got a no trade clause. The only place he can play is New Orleans.

He can play anywhere he wants, if he agrees to a trade. NTC doesn’t mean “only place he can play is New Orleans”; It means the player controls where he goes. That being said, I just don’t see DB#9 agreeing to go anywhere else, but stranger things have happened. It’s entirely possible he wants to play, it’s entirely possible Saints leadership, including coaching, has already move on from him.

If that is the case... Big IF though!

WW_Who_Dat 02-28-2021 09:23 AM

Re: Russell Wilson

DB#9 come back for 2021 and is the best QB in the QB room ... DB didn’t was not reason we lost in the playoffs, it was Tampa’s defense. Look at what they did to Green Bay and Brady threw 3 interceptions. They dismantled KC and the best QB and one of the best coaches in the NFL.

Tampa post season

Tampa 30 Saints 20
Tampa 31 Green Bay 26
Tampa 31 KC 9

Tampa’s defense won that post season run and Super Bowl because nobody else’s defense was able to put pressure on Brady.

I know that, that's a given. Everyone should know how the clause works. But, Brees has repeatedly said that he would only play in New Orleans and that is where he would end his career. That's the point I was trying to make. With a no trade clause he makes the call and he's already made that call repeatedly.
