I'm not sure covid changed the outcome or not. It seemed pretty clear to me the direction this was going when Gilliken was signed to the original 53, then stashed on IR. It screamed punter of the future.
And for the Saints spending money borrowed from the future finally caught up with them. They are $50+ million over. There is going to be a lot of pain dished out in the next week. SFIAH |

There is pain being dished out all across the league. All of these veteran getting cut are not going to find themselves in any kind of bargaining position for a new job. They'll need to just tread water until the cap explodes in a couple of years. I heard yesterday that with all of the new broadcast rights contracts (now including Amazon Prime) that the cap could be as high as $350 million in just three or four years. That makes sense since the projections are that the contracts could easily double the previous totals.
