Per Underhill : "Deadline to sign Marcus Williams has passed without a deal, per source. Saints made a strong offer but they’ll have to wait to try again".

It’s probably better to tag him twice rather than pay an inflated price, especially since he whiffed on a game saving tackle that would have earned us a SuperBowl berth.

Hard to assume that one Smash. You still had to get through a red hot Philly team the following week. No guarantees we would have won.

Nobody in the league was beating Philly that year. Nobody. They just had the “it” factor. Just like we did in 06.

He only whiffed because he was told not to create a foul. That's not on him.

Respectfully, we'd tore Philly a new arsehole - Sean going out-of-character conservative vs MIN HC, his kryptonite, did us in...

Usually when the Saints Front Office has extended a player, it's been cheaper than franchise tagging them over and over...

Thought they'd learned their lesson with Drew on that one...

Ryan Ramczyk wasn't named to the ProBowl that year, though he was All-Pro, so ProBowls are not a valid indicator of NFL success...

If this were the NY, Philly, ATL, Chicago, Dallas, or L.A. Saints, Marcus Williams would have been All-Pro his rookie year, let alone have been named to the Pro-Bowl...

As I stated earlier in the thread, it's a gamble, but the right move for him is to wait till next season when the cap number should escalate as much as 20%...

Williams with another great season and that cap number higher should give him all the leverage...

That plus SP's bad knowledge of the rule book, unlike BB.

Re: Marcus Williams Tagged

Well we’re currently about $27 million over the 2022 salary cap ceiling of $208 million with only 40 players under contract. Yes we’ve seen the gymnastics Loomis and Harley can do to get under the cap this offseason, but next year may be even more daunting because we don’t even have a QB under contract. I think Marcus Williams is as good as gone.
