Speaking of the franchise tag, Brandon Scherff is on tag #2.

Kind of surprised by that one, especially after Ramz got paid.

Ryan Ramczyk wasn't named to the ProBowl that year, though he was All-Pro, so ProBowls are not a valid indicator of NFL success...

If this were the NY, Philly, ATL, Chicago, Dallas, or L.A. Saints, Marcus Williams would have been All-Pro his rookie year, let alone have been named to the Pro-Bowl...

As I stated earlier in the thread, it's a gamble, but the right move for him is to wait till next season when the cap number should escalate as much as 20%...

Williams with another great season and that cap number higher should give him all the leverage...

ProBowls should never be used as a measuring stick for quality of play; Case in point is Ramczyk...

Ramczyk was named All-Pro after a season where he shutdown at least six (6) HOF players, at least ten (10) DEs, from a sack...

Matt asked the right question, this is likely a case of Marcus and agent waiting till next season when the cap should increase dramatically, giving them more leverage...

Well we’re currently about $27 million over the 2022 salary cap ceiling of $208 million with only 40 players under contract. Yes we’ve seen the gymnastics Loomis and Harley can do to get under the cap this offseason, but next year may be even more daunting because we don’t even have a QB under contract. I think Marcus Williams is as good as gone.

Thought we were ever so slightly under the cap... nonetheless, methinks you’re probably right as far as retaining Williams’ services, other than re-tagging him.
