Anzalone Feels Unwanted
Apparently Anzalone feels unwanted with the Saints and is looking for a team where he feels more at home, like with Oshner or Dignity Health. Starting linebacker or not, I will always view him as a peoples champion.

Re: Anzalone Feels Unwanted
I’m not going to kick Anzalone for this. I’m not saying he is correct, but it is indicative of what is IMO the most glaring weakness of Payton’s tenure. He has developed players at practically every position on the team, including punter, except LBs. He was smart enough to go get guys like Vilma and Davis that worked to his credit.

Re: Anzalone Feels Unwanted
When Greg Oden felt unwanted by his American team, for very similar reasons to Anzalone, he went to play abroad. This could be a great solution for Anzalone.

Re: Anzalone Feels Unwanted
Alex is a great guy who, in my opinion, got schitty orthopedic care at Florida, and was faced with a stunted NFL development while he finally got the care he actually needed...
There's two dynamics that I see here; first, he wasn't fully accepted by his teammates, and second, he was on a short chain after the team invested so heavily in getting him healthy... Those are almost always the two strikes that make a guy want to move on from a team; NFL players I've been friendly with, or their sons in some cases, have shared this with me consistently... Can't say I know Alex that well, but he struck me as a fun loving guy wanting to fit in and play football; and for whatever reasons, he never fit in with these Saints... Wish him well. He's got a beautiful wife and baby, and I hope he can resume his career for at least the term of another contract and have a long, happy life... |

I posted a clip of the Ross Tucker/Anzalone interview a few days ago.
Quite frankly, Alex hadn't done enough in the 3+ seasons here. There was a reason the Saints made a trade last season. Notice how much better the defense played when Kwon arrived? Demario Davis being able to freelance and what not. I wish Anzalone the best but he simply didn't get it done at the starting LB position. The NFL is a production driven business. If you don't impact the position or make plays, coaches will replace you. This is big boy football. |

Considering the injury history, he probably overachieved getting as much starts/playing time as he did. Admittedly, linebacker might be the most difficult position in the NFL to excel at consistently. Good luck to him.

Re: Anzalone Feels Unwanted
He got benched and it hurt his feelings. I get that. The fact is he never performed up to expectations. I wish him well elsewhere.

Someone in the NFL will take a chance on Anzalone. There simply are not the options for NFL players that basketball or baseball players have. SFIAH |
Re: Anzalone Feels Unwanted
I’m not going to hate on the guy. It was a great draft pick and he gave us some really great plays. Things don’t always work out. I feel like he would be great in a 3-4 defense... Maybe with the Pats or Giants.

Re: Anzalone Feels Unwanted
Anzalone had more than enough time to prove he was capable and never did. Sorry your feelings were hurt but this is football, either perform to the standard or move on.
When he couldn't fall on a simple fumble in the endzone, I was ready to see him gone. If he can't fall on a football, what chance did he have as a starting LB. |

When you really parse it out, he did have his chances, but they were limited... |

I hate that he feels unwanted. It's a shame about his injuries but that is the NFL. Maybe he will prosper in a 3-4. I hope he gets the chance to find out.

I'm sorry, but I don't blame him at all for that play any more than an outfielder jumping up to try to steal a homerun ball over the fence and having it careen out of his glove as his arm comes down and hits the top of the wall. |

Not wishing to argue, but all I'm hearing is excuses. These guys get paid millions to play a child's game and then say they feel unwanted lol if you aren't doing your job to the standard, you deserve to get questioned, just like any of us in the outside world would be. |

It was still rolling at enough of a pace to roll through the end line itself. He's coming in running at near full speed and dives for the ball. In well over fifty years of watching the NFL I cannot even venture to tell you how many times I have seen these professionals dive for a loose ball and not manage to get it under control. It would have been f'ing awesome had he been able, despite the odds, to gain control of the ball in time, but he didn't. Yet, you are claiming that in the spur of the minute there is no way he should have ever failed to gain control of that ball, right? Anzalone has never given any excuses, nor has he ever claimed to feel unwanted. Perhaps there were musings by others here in this forum and perhaps some dweeb or two in their mother's basement, but I have heard nothing from him or his camp. |

Re: Anzalone Feels Unwanted
Regardless of how he "feels" he won't be back next year. I hope he "feels" welcome at his next stop.

Re: Anzalone Feels Unwanted
His second season was injury free, IIRC, and he played well.
I was very hopeful after that season he'd develop into a really good LB for the Saints, but the injuries caught up to him again the following season. I think it's mutually beneficial for the Saints and AA to part ways. |
Re: Anzalone Feels Unwanted
I’m cool with him as a back up.

Re: Anzalone Feels Unwanted
Average talent. Injury prone. Cut bait and cheer for some new guys.

Re: Anzalone Feels Unwanted
No reports of any visits of anything. Maybe he is unwanted by other teams too. Or maybe he is not healthy enough to cover cam cleeland.
