Anzalone Feels Unwanted

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Apparently Anzalone feels unwanted with the Saints and is looking for a team where he feels more at home, like with Oshner or Dignity Health. Starting linebacker or not, I will always view him as a peoples champion. https://twitter.com/andrewjuge/statu...472978435?s=21...

I’m not going to kick Anzalone for this. I’m not saying he is correct, but it is indicative of what is IMO the most glaring weakness of Payton’s tenure. He has developed players at practically every position on the team, including punter, except LBs. He was smart enough to go get guys like Vilma and Davis that worked to his credit.

When Greg Oden felt unwanted by his American team, for very similar reasons to Anzalone, he went to play abroad. This could be a great solution for Anzalone.

Re: Anzalone Feels Unwanted

Alex is a great guy who, in my opinion, got schitty orthopedic care at Florida, and was faced with a stunted NFL development while he finally got the care he actually needed...

There's two dynamics that I see here; first, he wasn't fully accepted by his teammates, and second, he was on a short chain after the team invested so heavily in getting him healthy...

Those are almost always the two strikes that make a guy want to move on from a team; NFL players I've been friendly with, or their sons in some cases, have shared this with me consistently...

Can't say I know Alex that well, but he struck me as a fun loving guy wanting to fit in and play football; and for whatever reasons, he never fit in with these Saints...

Wish him well. He's got a beautiful wife and baby, and I hope he can resume his career for at least the term of another contract and have a long, happy life...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

What makes you think he wasn’t accepted by his teammates? I wasn’t able to read the Tweet.

Re: Anzalone Feels Unwanted

I posted a clip of the Ross Tucker/Anzalone interview a few days ago.

Quite frankly, Alex hadn't done enough in the 3+ seasons here. There was a reason the Saints made a trade last season. Notice how much better the defense played when Kwon arrived? Demario Davis being able to freelance and what not.

I wish Anzalone the best but he simply didn't get it done at the starting LB position. The NFL is a production driven business. If you don't impact the position or make plays, coaches will replace you.

This is big boy football.

Botching that fumble recovery for a touchdown was the nail in the coffin for the coaches - he was on a short leash...

Re: Anzalone Feels Unwanted

Considering the injury history, he probably overachieved getting as much starts/playing time as he did. Admittedly, linebacker might be the most difficult position in the NFL to excel at consistently. Good luck to him.

He got benched and it hurt his feelings. I get that. The fact is he never performed up to expectations. I wish him well elsewhere.

I’m just hoping Baun isn’t Anzalone 2.0.
