We are probably still the cream of the NFC south.
I think the doom and gloom is because we are losing a lot of talent in general, not just Brees. I think we would have a tough time next year even if Brees played another year at a high level. Injuries have hit us hard in the past but we have been really deep. Not so much this coming year. I do believe in Payton and I think he will be able to coach the team to a winning season but I’m not expecting much more than 7th seed and I’m ok with that. I just hope Payton stays around. If not it’s back to the bottom for us.

Re: Saints QB Drew Brees retires from NFL after 20 seasons: 'I am not retiring from New Orleans'

I was just listening to Doug Flutie talking to Charlie Weis about Drew's retirement and his going to work for NBC. First of all, he'll be in the studio for Sunday night games, not taking Collinsworth's place ... yet. He'll also be doing color commentary for all Notre Dame games. They talked about how much Drew enjoys seeing his boys play ball and how that's going to become more difficult with the TV gig than when he was the Saints QB. The whole argument that he'll have more time with his kids now is flawed since he'll be out of town on Saturdays. Weis said that Brees is going to learn that fast.

Good point. But does a TeeBee gig take more time than Brees' was putting in as QB for the Saints? I remember reading he was reporting at 5AM at Airline Highway.

Reads like a song lyric.

Who's glad we have a competent coach to lead this team in this transition?

During the season he'll be traveling more than he ever did playing. Half his games were home games and they usually traveled Saturday evening for Sunday away games and returned that night. He'll now be leaving Thursday night or Friday morning every week to meet with the Notre Dame staff to prep for the Saturday games and then fly into Stamford, Connecticut where the Sunday Night studio show is hosted. He'll then most likely return home Monday. I'm sure he'll have additional responsibilities throughout the week.

Some here have argued that the coach is less than competent.

Nothing but respect for the man. Pretty much an iron man for the Saints.

Re: Drew Brees Officially Announces Retirement

What an incredible ride. Looking forward to the day when fans can return to the Dome in great number and retire Drew's #9 in style.

I am not usually a person who cares, thinks or obsesses about meeting my sports heroes. But despite that, I'd love to meet Drew someday and play him in a match of tennis (even if he whips me).

What a great ride it was. I wish we didn’t waste so many of his prime years. I’m excited to see what the future holds.

His future will indeed be exciting. As for our Saints, I am dreading it. I'll still continue to predict going undefeated and winning it all every year, but deep down I'll be back to simply celebrating whatever wins we accomplish just like in the pre-Drew era.

But it could be worse, we could be Failclowns fans.
