Brees was still a very important part of the leadership of those teams. Do not underestimate that. I've heard many here say the team was playing to win it for Drew. I don't doubt there's a bit of truth to that. But, the competition level of those opponents was to put it mildly, crappy on the whole. The opponents also didn't have much of a book at all with the QB's in the offense.

That was then and this is now. Gail Benson is running a better show than Robert Mecum or even Tom Benson before Tagliabue refused to let him move to San Antonio. Afterward he had a new vision for the team. He no longer thought like a used car salesman but as a winner with Payton and Drew. We are still in good hands.

So, you don’t predict the Saints to make the playoffs for another decade....OK.

Well first of all... once a decade I would have taken. 68-87. 87 I think was our first playoff game it started out 1 playoff appearance in every 2 decades lol.

I think its safe to say you can turn around a franchise in say 3-4 years. But you have to hit on your QB. If you don't then you set your franchise back 10 years. I am watching this play out in Cleveland right now.

Our division has been nuts because generally the last place team sneaks in the next year to win the division at times.

I think we can grab a vet QB and try it but I think we are better off giving Sean a pass this coming year get us some good draft picks and start rebuilding. See what we become in 3-4 years.

What I don't like is we seem to be holding on to a core of players and then have a slightly above average team make the playoffs and everyone keeps their job.

I want to do better than that.

Never said that. I said that I expect a Prebressian existence.

Not saying we don't make the playoffs whenever. Comparing it to the previous era of Saints history. Intermittent Playoff appearances when enough other franchise fail to achieve as well. I don't see us as a power unless we get really lucky again.

Well thought out, my friend.

Re: Saints QB Drew Brees retires from NFL after 20 seasons: 'I am not retiring from New Orleans'

This has been a weird 24 hours for me. I've been up and down. I thought I had moved through the "phases" a couple of weeks after the playoff loss.
Now I think I may be back at denial. Hah!

I now know what my Dad meant back when I was young and my Dad said, "I don't know who I'm going to hang my hat on now." When Dale Earnhardt died.

My father is from Michigan. Moved here to the south when he was a kid. So he has stayed a Lions fan. That's his roots. We had a ton of fun watching Barry Sanders together.

Anyway, through the years he has been pulling for the Saints because he says, Drew is a great player and an even better person.

So now, I don't know who to hang my hat on. It has been that man for the last 15 years.

You'll know it when you see it. Mine was Hank Aaron and then Pete Rose. Then Greg Maddux and Chipper Jones. The came Drew who made me forget baseball. I was always a Saints fan because of my move to Louisiana back in the Spring of 1967, but Drew took it over the top.

Isn’t our Offense still in tack mostly, it’s the De that worries me , jack rabbit gone we gonna see a lot of crawley on highlites at ten, remember them days of Drew throwing for 5000 + yards because the defense gives up 45 points a game. But we have a 5000 yard passer that may still be in a saints uni next season
