Overpaid and overrated. He will be the highest paid back up in the league unless we use him as trade bait. Might get a rd 5 since his contract is so cheap. Someone tell him to stay out of the seafood markets and he should stay a viable backup.

Re: Winston signed
I heard a point made today on NFL Network while talking about the Saints QB post Brees. They were discussing Winston. They said that if the Saints signed Winston his expectations would be based upon the value of his contract. If it was greater than Hill's he should be expected to be the starter. If it was less then he should be expected to be the backup.
Hill has a guaranteed total salary with bonuses of $12.159 million this season. Winston has a deal worth "up to" $12 million this season. I seriously hope Winston does play QB because Taysom's value comes as the hybrid player. Either one is a huge step down from what we have had for the past 15 years. |

A one year deal suits everyone.
If Winston shows he's the guy he get paid next year the real big money. He's bet on himself to succeed and the Saints get to see him without being locked in. |

Let’s stabilize the line and give Winston a fair shot. This is a win-win for us no matter how you look at it.

Re: Winston signed
I’ve always been one who’s looked at the upside of Jameis Winston. Sure he has had his problems early in career as many players have, but he has also accomplished a lot more than most players. 5,000 yard passing season. Career 120-90 TD to Int ratio. Yeah he needs ball control skills, but he also got sacked a lot and had different OCs in his 5 year stint at Tampa IIRC.
The dude is a big, strong, First overall Heisman-winning pick. Only 27 and has never had a serious injury. He’s everything Drew Brees isn’t! Get some production from WRs and Trautman and Payton might be like a kid in a candy store again with his play calling. Let’s put it this way, if Payton can help Winston improve half as much as he helped Brees improve, then they will be set at QB! |

I like that this is a one-year prove-it deal and it frees us up to whatever we see fit to do in the draft (no added pressure of picking a QB unless it's the right guy). Do we still have Simien?

Re: Saints and Jameis Winston reach an agreement on a 1-year deal
Sean in the past made Kerry Collins better, made Quincy Carter into a real QB, and had only one loss without Drew in the last two seasons. I'm intrigued on what he will do post Drew. Taysom has skills, and so does Winston. Let the best man win.
