Clan MacNeil, also known in Scotland as Clan Niall, is a highland Scottish clan of Irish origin. McGirr is a derivation of the Scottish MacGuire, which is an anglicized form of the Gaelic Mag Uidhir ‘son of Odhar’, with a parent house of Clan Conla. Therefore that side made the move in the other direction.
