Sam Darnold... should we?

I wouldn't mind for the right price.

Re: Sam Darnold... should we?

It’s not a bad idea, but it doesn’t make a lot of sense if you look at a few numbers IMO:

Darnold Career TD%= 3.7 Int %= 3.2 Comp %= 59.8

Winston Career TD%= 4.7 Int %= 3.4 Comp %= 61.4

So I don’t see an upside in trading for him.

J E T S are very likely drafting a QB. This means Sam Darnold as a J E T is no longer in the cards. Just how many QBs have the J E T S mismanaged?

NE might be in the mix for him. The again not, if a trade, since J E T S are in the same division.

Still, it could prove interdasting for our QB competition, if the price were cheap as is suggested might be. Is Sam Darnold smarter than Jameis?

Yeah, having him in wouldn’t be a problem. I would just hope that maybe he’s cut or something. I wouldn’t give more than a 4th round for him in the Saints position. Jets would probably want more.

Never understood the hype with him coming out of college. 3 straight mediocre seasons in the NFL. After that "seeing ghost" comment he made, I was done. The Jets are a mess from top to bottom.

IMO he's a career back up.

He didn’t even do what he was hyped to do in college.

No. Not interested.

Boston Saint 03-28-2021 06:00 PM

Re: Sam Darnold... should we?

It’s a near impossible task I would imagine, but if you could get two players really committed to the idea of sharing quarterback duty then you would be able to create a powerful offense. A 60 to 40% Ratio would make it really hard to scheme against. If that’s what Payton is going for, and the team is behind it, and the QBs too...then let’s roll !

Re: Sam Darnold... should we?

Hard pass on Darnold. Not that I think he's terrible, but he's not worth trading away value for.

My thoughts about the backup QB position shift between drafting Ian Book in the late rounds, picking up a fairly young free agent with good experience in Nick Mullens, going with Siemian, or signing a old intelligent vet like Alex Smith, Colt McCoy or Hoyer.

I agree with the Ian book if he drops to 3rd rd the guys a drew Brees clone, Payton would make him a top 5 QB in 3 years

Ian's style is different than Drew, but I think the intangibles are similar and just the fact that both were overachievers in college. Ian reminds me a lot of Jake Plummer, with less interceptions.

Rd 3 steal. I would jump all over it.

3rd round ? He'll be available late in the draft. A inconsistent Senior bowl didn't help his stock either. Saints won't make another Grayson G mistake.

Most scouts have Ian selected from rounds 5-7 if drafted at all.

So what's the consensus here after four weeks. Was Sam Darnold worth the trade we could have made?

I don't know but that's because I only watch Saints football. I have always liked his mechanics. However, I am watching Winston get better each week.

Re: Sam Darnold... should we?

He had all the time in the world to throw in the first half against us, and only managed 17 pts, and then only 9 in the second half where we ruffled his feathers a little. Given almost zero pressure this should have been a 40 burger.

Nope. Sure, he'll win you a few regular-season games but highly unlikely he'll get you much further.

Lamar Jackson is still the best QB from that 2018 draft class. Then, Josh Allen, Mayfield is a distant 3rd, and then Darnold.

SP thinks Jameis is better than all of them.

If Drew were still here, he'd made potato salad out of these spuds, but not much more. Would people blame Drew? Of course not.

Our problem is not (yet) at QB.

Bump ...

Still interested in that trade? Sam had 3 INTs today (6 on the season) & 177 yards against a hobbled Philly defense.

2 weeks ago sports analysts had the Panthers headed to the Super Bowl but today .. not so much. Sam also took an L.

Panthers could be in trouble second half of the season.

Sam Darnold wasn’t good at USC and he’s not good in the NFL.

We’re gonna blow their ass out the next time we see em.

Still early, let's see what Matt Rhule and Joe Brady can do with Sam Darnold...

But the early results suggest Darnold will greatly improve under their tutelage...

37 / 43 @ 442 and 4 tds on MNF vs Colts, arguably his best work & he hasn't even peaked yet. Lamar is going to be a problem for defenses for the next decade :bng:

It depends just how RG tells the refs to officiate the games, IMHO. The way Lamar moves around will not last as long as many think. Michael Vick says hello.

I seriously doubt he lasts a decade. With his style of play he's one hit away from becoming another RGIII. They were discussing this (running QB's) today on NFL Radio and Ed McCaffrey said it isn't a matter of if a players gets injured, it is a matter of when and he was the one that brought up RGII in comparison.

Didn't Vick play at a high level for over a decade?

Vick was only able to play a 16 game season ONCE in his entire 13 year career (2006).

See the game I watched was the Colts came up and frustrated him through most of the game, then like Jim Mora, Reich took his foot off the pedal on offense and defense...

And just like that the Colts lost a sure thing...
