I applaud his wisdom, but I question how its possible. It says he lived off sponsorship money. But wasn't he a sleeper pick in the NFL draft, an unheralded third down back drafted in the 3rd round who split time in college at a struggling program and was going to a 7-9 team? I could see him getting sponsorships once he made noise in the NFL, but do mid-round picks really get sponsored before training camp when they have not proven anything and the casual fan has no idea who they are yet? Who sponsors them? Are 3rd round running backs from 2020 like Keshaun Vaugn and Lynn Bowen who didn't make much noise this year sponsoring some product I don't know of, like Lifetime benches?

Salary is only one aspect of an NFL players income. They get workout bonuses, performance bonuses, roster bonuses.. None of that is salary or endorsement.

Its easy to do when you don't come out of college and try to be P Diddy. It might be shocking that some black NFL players know how to manage their finances and spending habits but they do.
