Re: USA Today/SaintsWire | The best Saints draft picks of the Sean Payton era
I like his list except for Tre'Quan Smith. Just because he's on our roster doesn't make him our best pick. I don't remember who we drafted that year but if he's our prize then we missed the jackpot.

Yeah, like some mentioned about Kevin Smith, I don’t see a “grit” in him. Nothing that makes me believe he fights for the ball or the extra yard. I hope he proves me wrong because he seems to have the physical skills. I’m rooting for him.

Quite a few "hits" over misses in this list. And a few legends (Cam J, Colston, Morestead) as well. Not many "experts" saw CGM, Ceedy & AK coming. Not a lot of "hype" but over performed. IMO these guys are already elite at their craft. Really good scouting led by Jeff Ireland & company.
Can't wait to see our 2021 rookie class. |

We seem to jump up to get players who fall and that worked with Cee Dee and AK. Not so much with players that have injury concerns unfortunately like Anzalone.
This year we have so many holes to fill that I don't believe we will move up several times like we've done lately going after a player that we covet. Maybe once. Maybe even twice if they are the perfect corner and line backer for our system. We've got too many holes to fill to throw away draft picks this year. I think we need to play the long game and draft eight starters or role players. |
