Saints waive UDFA DBs Trill Williams, Eric Burrell with failed physical designations
 
The New Orleans Saints waived undrafted free agent signees Trill Williams and Eric Burrell with failed physical designations, the team announced Friday.

Williams, a cornerback out of Syracuse, opted out midway through the 2020 season due to an ankle injury, but it's not known if that's what prompted the failed physical. In college, he tallied four interceptions, 10 pass breakups and three forced fumbles in three seasons.

Burrell, a safety from Wisconsin, sustained an ankle injury during the 2020 season, but finished the season with 23 tackles, two tackles for loss and an interception. It's not known if his previous injury is connected to the failed physical.


Not much of a thrill, I guess!

Wow, both players had great film; guess we'll start ringing up the veterans...

Laughed when CBS Sports suggested the Saints will need to trade Patrick Robinson being we had Paulson Adebo now...

Most people have the memory of a tsetse fly - #WhoDatNation knows you gotta (4) Corners and (3) Safeties on your roster that can play week to week...

We're definitely seeing the impact of not having a combine, limited prospect access for interviews and physicals, is having...

What's really tough is prospects who fell, not drafted, have plus-grade tape, but they're currently injured and the first few months of an NFL career or critical...

Trill should be back. We have open roster spots and no money to fill them with veteran players.

Couple of thoughts...

First, not all contracts count against the salary cap, just the top 51...

Second, though admittedly lesser without Brees, this roster is still stocked with only a few holes, we're just looking for best available to push, improve our roster...

You're probably right; still, this hurts because the team needs to keep throwing raw talented players like The Trill at the player pool to keep 'em tight...

Sean preaches Competition Street (only no criticism of team mgt from the press), but he's right on this, you gotta keep guys honest, fighting every day...

Plus, thought it'd be pretty cool having a DB named Trill - Oh, well, some blues seems apropos right about now...

The 51 Rule is only until after the last preseason game then they all count against the cap.

51 is solely to allow teams to carry as many players as they want for evaluation purposes until preseason is over. After that even the practice squad goes against the cap.

One of my favorite, prized albums is B.B. King Live at San Quentin...

So we can still sign up to 90, at league min. or so long as the contract not exceed the top 51 contracts in value, evaluate, cut, get contracts in order for Week 1...

I kind of feel bad for these guys when they seemingly sometimes have to change employers multiple times in a day. How do you explain that to the wife?

WTH!?!?

I want answers to why he failed the physical. Was it something they could have stalled until they have the answered they needed. Instead you cut him and someone else snagged him. SMH. Not very Saint like.
