I cannot see any scenario short of both Hill and Winston suffering significant injuries that would result in Book starting a game this season. and even under that scenario I can see the Saints bringing in someone like Siemian instead.
That said, I would love to see Book emerge as the eventual starter in the future based upon his proving he is the best option. Next off-season could be interesting when it comes to the QB competition. Or Winston could conceivably solidify himself as the long term starter with a successful season. |

Also I cannot think of a quarterback in HIS FIRST FOUR STARTS - EVER - that completed 72.7 percent of his passes. That includes Winston who had a dismal 58.32% percent in his first year. (i couldn't break down the first 4 games.) In 2019 WITH ALL HIS experience HE COULD ONLY MANAGE 63.64% see below for his career stats: 2020 New Orleans Saints 4 11 7 63.64 75 6.8 19 0 0 5 45.45 0 2 11 83.5 2019 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 16 626 380 60.7 5109 8.2 71 33 30 243 38.82 75 47 282 84.3 2018 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 11 378 244 64.55 2992 7.9 64 19 14 152 40.21 34 27 157 90.2 2017 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 13 442 282 63.8 3504 7.9 70 19 11 180 40.72 32 33 207 92.2 2016 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 16 567 345 60.85 4090 7.2 45 28 18 214 37.74 43 35 239 86.1 2015 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 16 535 312 58.32 4042 7.6 68 22 15 201 37.57 57 27 190 84.2 TOTAL 76 2559 1570 61.35 19812 7.7 337 121 88 995 38.88 241 171 1086 86.9 PS Don't forget Taysom broke all of Steve Young's records at BYU. But sure (tongue in cheek) "he's more valuable to us as a swiss army knife." No, I am not a Mormon...not even close. But the guy can play Quarterback (better than Winston) and has PROVEN it. |

And I'm sure Winston had a grasp of the playbook by week 11. But with far more time under his belt with the playbook, Hill was the logical choice to start those few games. Now the difference between Winston's and Hill's playbook knowledge would be negligible and Hills value as a versatile weapon tips the scale in Winston's favor of starting moving forward. And, I'm not sure what you are watching, but when has Hill ever shown he was better at playing QB than Winston? He has started four games in his entire NFL career. He managed to beat an Atlanta team with a horrible defense two of those games. He was the starting QB against a Denver team that had no QB's on the active gameday roster for another win. He lost to a poor Eagles squad in the other. He threw two picks and fumbled the ball FIVE times in his four starts. He has passed for FOUR TD's in his entire NFL career. What about any of that is impressive? |

You had me up to this statement. By what measure has Hill proven he is a better QB than a guy who has a 5,000 yard season and a positive career TD/int ratio? |
