this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I've always hated that you can be a little physical covering a receiver as long as you turn and try to make a play on the ball, but you if you don't turn it automatically means PI....

Believe that's why one of the most important hires to a coaching staff in today's NFL is the defensive backs coaches; the technical component is the detailed... The technique has as much an influence on the game as the QB or WR position... |

Or if they did get a flag everyone was complaining that it was subjective and not pertinent to the play.

Re: What's One NFL Rule That Needs To Be Changed?
This is not exactly a rule but i have always felt that receivers who deflect or bobble a catchable pass to defenders should have the INT count on their stats not the QBs. A bobbled catch int is exactly like a fielding error in baseball, yet it counts against the ‘ pitcher’ who has no control of it.
Also i would have a rule that any fumble following helmet to helmet contact is a dead ball even if the runner lowers his helmet. Donte Whitner forcing the fumble on Pierre Thomas by concussing him was a disaster for player safety that made CTE the defensive MVP and if we continue to allow concussions as a turnover strategy its only a matter of time until we pull a corpse from the bottom of a pile while defenders celebrate. |
