It’s time.

I’ve seen enough.

You’ve seen enough.

And I feel certain Sean Payton and his staff have seen enough.

It’s time to make the call: Jameis Winston will be the New Orleans Saints starting quarterback when they open the regular season against the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 12.

The official announcement, which should come sometime in the next week or two, was rendered a mere formality after Winston’s gonzo performance in the Saints’ 23-21 exhibition win against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night.

Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill? Saints' Sean Payton hopes to name QB starter this week, he tells NBC
Winston delivered a 9-for-10, 126-yard, two-touchdown knockout punch in his ballyhooed competition with Taysom Hill to become Drew Brees’ replacement.

It was about as authoritative a statement as you could make, considering the circumstances. In the hours before kickoff, reports stated that Payton hoped to name a starter before the Saints’ game against the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday. So the Jaguars game would, for all intents and purposes, be the final big opportunity for Winston and Hill to make an impression in the close-contested competition.

And Winston made it easy on everyone.

Two series was all he needed to effectively close the deal. On the sixth play of the Saints’ opening drive, he dropped a 43-yard dime to a heavily covered Marquez Callaway, who beat two Jaguars defenders to make a spectacular diving catch for a touchdown. He capped the next series by lofting a 29-yard strike down the sideline to Callaway for another dramatic score.

He certainly played well. Calloway definitely made a couple of nice plays for him as well. Crazy good catch on that first TD pass.

He put on a show.

We haven't seen those kinds of completions to Idaho in a really long time. To be fair, we've seen shorter throws with tremendous YAC. Those two plays really loosened up the defense, however.

Remember those videos earlier this summer with Jameis, Juwan, Callaway & Tony Jones Jr working out with the RouteGod down in Tampa ? ...

I'd say every single player has benefited from those sessions. It's carrying over to practice and games.

Bonding, film study and chemistry is so important.

Well, we needed someone to step up and claim the job with their performance, and it looks like Jameis has done that.

He is saying and doing all the right things. I am cautiously optimistic about the season.

Taysom decided to do his off season conditioning/training up in Idaho.

I'm not sure if it was in a group setting though. I will say this, having Jameis AND Taysom on the field at the same time is a good thing.
