Re: Ida threatens Saturday's last preseason game- Game Canceled - Louisiana in the cone
Still Alive, I'll slap anyone who names their kid Ida; like MidSouth Wrestling Legit Slap; it's really freaking bad here, I'm one of the more fortunate ones...
F' you to all the gov't subsidized unemployed who hoarded all the water and fuel before working, self-employed types could get supplied pre-storm... As I said in a DM, this is the worst freaking storm to ever hit here. Period. The concrete parking and barricades in front of my building looked like they were pressure washed, on second thought, they were... Video(s) I took from inside my building (security window view) sound like I was outside filming; I'll figure out how I want to share it, truly awesome force of nature... Building next to me peeled like an onion; still trying to organize my thoughts to tell people how intense and terrible a storm this was to witness, come out from... Drive I took to check on a couple of my Brothers in town was heartbreaking, families homeless, it's surreal seeing this in my Country... Note: The Federal and State response here is a #Sh*tShow, there are desperate people getting treated like garbage... The class of the response is the out-of-town Utility Linemen, awesome men and women of awesome character - can't emphasize this enough; they're the Real Heroes... Day 5 post H. Ida, still without power, potable water; have a day of drinking water left (see previous comment); fuel normally keep for business will run out ~ noon today... Plenty of food, still cook big meals, portion/freeze it in bachelor size; but it's gone if the fuel situation doesn't improve; banking needs to open, especially local institutions... Was asked this - If you're gonna donate (God Bless You), don't give to #BigProfessionalCharities, the folks really getting it done are churches and veterans groups... Those folks are amazing, compassionate, patient; contrasted with FEMA and Red Cross, which are an absolute joke, unprofessional, rude people... This is the Attitude of most of my neighbors and friends here from those that have been able to get outside contact, news... Yeah, F' Ida, I still have my sense of humour... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Great hearing from you, JP. I was seriously concerned as I knew you had taken the brunt there. Our church has rented a second truck which we will be loading with tarps, contractor trash bags, water, box fans, dehumidifiers, and N-95 masks this Saturday and Sunday. A first truck went out earlier this week. These will be delivered to Broadmoor UMC in Baton Rouge which is the staging point for final distribution where needed most.
Not sure how to help with gas, however. Both Lowe's and Home Depot here are out of gas cans. I heard yesterday that the Federal emergency reserve has been opened to help with supply. |

This is our truck from earlier this week.
Like I said, gas cans have been wiped out around here. That means people are trying to get gas down there. If any of y'all's groups want to do the same, these are the items needed and they can be sent to Broadmoor UMC in Baton Rouge ... They are saying limit it to these items - tarps, contractor trash bags, water, box fans, dehumidifiers, and N-95 masks. |

Re: Ida threatens Saturday's last preseason game- Game Canceled - Louisiana in the cone
They cut power and WiFi 6 hours before there was a drop of rain or wind. I wish they would have told us because losing 6 hours of prep time, gas for generators, etc wastes a pretty significant amount of resources. We totally lost cell service shortly after and didn’t get it back until yesterday morning. Got a lot of wind but no major damage for me or my family. Lots of downed trees and power lines. I have a contract at a Federal city which has its own gas stations so I was able to get gas without much of a wait. I filled 10 cans with an incredibly slow pump as I watched the line behind me get longer. People started giving me dirty looks so I finished up and jumped in the truck. Went to start it and nothing..,wouldn’t turn over or make a sound, I couldn’t even get it out of park to push it out of the way. After about 30 minutes of YouTube I figured out how to take out the console and shift it manually. At this point there was a 3 hour wait behind me. Felt pretty ****ty about that one. Finally got power today and I’m in good shape. A/C went out two days before the storm and can’t get a new one till Tuesday. I installed a window unit so it’s all good now. Got lucky.

Re: Ida threatens Saturday's last preseason game- Game Canceled - Louisiana in the cone
So during the night, wake up at 2am to discover my alarm going off on my laptop realizing the generator was no longer running that I'd refueled at 10pm...
Had to have a bay door up about three feet to allow my hardworking generator to ventilate outside; 17+ gls of fuel was stolen, plus what was in the generator... Perp(s) were unable to take the generator as it's secured with a 3/4 inch (dia) steel cable; fortunately perp(s) missed one remaining fuel tank in back of me truck... So, despite being awaken, was able to continue on with auxiliary power; this morning I discovered fuel was also siphoned from my second truck parked out front... Then, agitated from being robbed of fuel (fuel and water are life right now here in Terrebonne And Lafourche) as well as the merciless heat, another discovery... Perp(s) had taken over $2K in Milwaukee Tools and HiCap batteries (and I'd negotiatied a deal on the batteries at $65 (retail $125) with a volume purchase)... So now when mornings started with rolling out at 5am with me pups and fuel tanks in search of fuel like a post-apocalyptic Mad Max experience, now this... So in harsh heat today, rigged a ventilation fanned duct so the No. 3 bay door can be secured; now, another treat... I've got to set random times during the night to wake up and patrol the perimeter of the building/property as rats (two-legged variety) are gnawing on steel panels... There's folks in way worse shape than me, but it's tough not to be super agitated with looters and thieves nipping at you during the night... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...
