Injured players out.. yeah, ok.
Not sayin' we would've won, but for this particular game, in this situation Taysom would've been a better choice to run the offense. Last week, no doubt Jameis was the best choice, but not for this game. I'm not blaming Sean Payton for the L, but I am blaming him for the complete offensive disaster embarrassment. After the 1st drive in the 2nd half that fell flat Jameis shoulda been benched and the Panther defense shoulda been forced to play "catch Taysom".
If the enemy's mortars have your location pinpointed, you don't lay there hoping they're gonna stop, you get up & fkng move.

I wouldn't hit the panic button yet, we pretty much had all of our coaches out and several guys on defense. The coaches being out may be more important than the defense guys. Pretty much all of our offensive coaches were out. They help to make adjustments throughout the game, give advice, fix things in game, etc. Now the truth is, I don't trust Jameis Winston. If he plays every game like he did last week, we'd be super bowl contenders. As I've said before though, stats are not everything. To win a Superbowl, you have to win multiple football games in a row. To do that, you need consistency. While I think Winton is capable of making amazing throws, looking great for periods of time, I think he goes through these periods where he looks like his brain has turned off. I just trust Taysom more, and wish he would have won the job. I know that's not going to be a popular opinion here, but I truly believe it.

We have no receivers. Chris Hogan is so washed up we would do just as well to bring in Ocho Cinco or Kelvin Benjamin. 3 of the most receiver poor teams in the league in NE, Car, and NYJ all cast him aside. 4 of our top receiving targets are undrafted guys with a couple hundred career yards. Our only drafted 'WR' is Ty Montgomery who can't decide what he is and has more positions than yards. Adam Troutman did not have a catch. Our top TE is an undrafted converted receiver. You can say we had more injuries on defense, but really we are missing our top 4 receiving targets (other than running backs) from last year. Imagining that Marquez Calloway, an undrafted free agent with like 200 career yards, is DeAndre Hopkins, does not make him DeAndre Hopkins. He is nobody until he produces consistently for real. It does not matter who our QB is. Maholmes would have lost for us today. Vick would have lost for us today. Manning would have lost for us today. No matter the style or skill, we had nobody to throw to, and the Panthers secondary came to play unlike the Packers and covered our undrafted amateurs.

Hill would not have done better. With no time to throw and nobody to throw to, Hill would have ran more. We saw with Kamara we would were able to run for a bit under 1 yard per carry, so Hill could have done that, and Carolina would have stacked the box even more.

For years we have been trading up picks to get defense and oline and we drafted one wide receiver, who is mediocre, and was hurt today. If we want to build this team we need to keep some 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th round picks and draft some receivers with more upside who can bring something more to the table in terms of speed or size. We need field stretchers. We need dump off options. We have camp bodies starting.

During the draft and free agency we knew Michael Thomas was not returning calls. This is what it is. We didn't get a contingency plan to even be a credible #3. Some games, opponents will screw up and mediocre receivers will get open. With a full stable of coaches, we may be able to scheme ways to get them open. But receiver is going to be an achilles heel for this team until Michael Thomas returns, if he even does effectively. If we want to contend, we should trade for a receiver. If we don't there are going to be games where Calloway, Hogan, Humphries, Harris, Troutman, Johnson, and the rest are a little off their Grey Cup peaks and make every opposing corner look like prime Deion Sanders.
