Observations from the Saints' loss to Carolina

Team loss all the way around. Striking contrast from the first outing. Guess we're not as deep as SP thinks. Officials had their say as well.

It's going to be a bumpy ride, buttercups. Hang on as the team transitions!

When Erik Mckoy is 100 again, he goes back to center.

Re: Observations from the Saints' loss to Carolina

Whilst I think Winston is undoubtedly better than Hill at QB, I am skeptical that he has what it takes to be the QB beyond this year.

I'm not going to jump on him straight away, because Brees had some really bad games too. But in a blowout loss, to throw for 111 yards and 50% completion percentage, that ain't going to get it done.

I'll reserve further judgment because we had a lot going against us this week anyway, but I saw shades of 30 INT Jameis still. Hope I'm wrong.

We had almost our whole defensive backfield out though. Im worried about the offense but i thought we where going to take a loss when I realized how many people we where missing. we Have to have better protection on the Oline too. Having our coaches present wouldnt hurt.

The only true positive of this game was Payton Turner. That kid looks legit

After first quarter I thought, we’ll he hasn’t lost us the game but he hasn’t won it either. Irregardless that kind of quarterback play will lose EVERY Time.

No excuses for the OL... Jameis practiced all summer with Ruiz at center. Peat's been curtailing his Popeyes outings. They just didn't show up prepared.

Regardless, the offense had its chances and blew them. Horrible showing.

Fair enough.

We need RECEIVERS. Guys who can create separation. Second week in a row Callaway was bottled up and we had no other option. I’m hopeful Kenny and/or Kevin White play more down the stretch.

Where is Trautman?

Jameis did not look great, but wasn't entirely on him. Defense looked very out of sync at times. Team loss all around. Credit to the Panthers, they took care of their business today.

I think Trautman honestly was just a guy that Brees made look serviceable.

He had a good TD catch vs Bucs, in that drubbing that turned out to mean absolutely nothing.

This year all I've seen is him drop passes and miss blocks. The one today got Jameis buried.

Worst offensive performance of the Payton era.

Can’t rely on a bagged up D to keep it going with zero offense.

Winston can’t have another game like this. We know his history, we are hoping he can change unlike Hill where we don’t know what he can do really.

With all the injuries and ALL the coaches that missed today's game I'm not too surprised, or worried, about the outcome.

Re: Observations from the Saints' loss to Carolina

Saints need another WR. We went 6/63 yards total today.

That’s bottom tier bad. When Callaway is bottled up, it’s basically a wrap. No one else is getting open. Too many undrafted WRs on the squad for my taste. Jordan H, Hogan, Juwan ain’t good enough on Sundays.

I hope Stills can play next week.

Out there missing blocking assignments. I dont see much more Winston can do with the amount of time he had. On the 4th down sack he did hold too long.

I hope that it won't be too late but the Saints will get one of the best receivers in the game back in about a month.

He isn't. Let it rest. What's done is done. Always dwelling on the past. It gets real old, Boston. Real old.

We had over a third of our starters missing out of the starting 22. We were missing eight coaches, been displaced by a horrible hurricane, and were playing on the road.

Enough said.

I disagree. You telling other people what to let go and what to think is what’s old.

Then we need to move Ruiz, because his ceiling at RG is not very impressive; he's a center; but I agree Erik McCoy is the best Center on the roster...

And when the opportunity affords itself next season, that Left Side will likely be a lot different...

-Too much to overcome.
-Panthers defense is for real.
-Saints OLine was absolutely
whipped.
-Gardner-Johnson is a difference maker.
-Don't watch the tape. Block it out. Move on

I’m really optimistic about the offense when we can roll out MT, Stills and Callaway. Until then… it’s going to be a struggle.

Constructive criticism:
- Drives me nuts when we start in pistol-like formation and shift to a normal shotgun. I think we could do more damage with the pistol similar to Chiefs and Cardinals.
- The pitch to Kamara at the goal line was much too risky and we saw the huge negative result. Unless you are playing a defense that is absolutely gassed, I don't think that play works at the goalline in the NFL. Stuff the middle or call another play.
- Play action on first down seemed kind of predictable and Panthers got us for huge losses on it.
- I don't think we called a screen all game. Could've used a few to keep Winston from getting assaulted.
- Needed to send more pressure vs Darnold earlier in the game. I know it's risky calling it with McCaffery, but we let Darnold get way too much rhythm.
- Refs need to chill with the roughing-the-passer flag. Terrible ones called against both teams today.

The defense played well enough to win in spite of everything until the end. We need offensive weapons period.

Who Dat!!!! First and foremost. We had so many out for covid, I'm trying to not be one of those fans but it is what it is. I personally want to see Jameis launch it. Show what receivers can handle it and who can't. Hard to do with a shotty line like today. He looked scared, out of place. Huge step back today, but in reality, it played out the way it should of with our outages. We will get better, every week. Panties took advantage of our disadvantages... We are better than them, you all know this.

Yep. Too many times nobody open. Jameis will take his fair share of heat but for the love of Pete where was he supposed to throw it?

Ruiz and Peats game hasn't evolved in the slightest I see. Ignoring A and B gap pressure and letting letting QB get decked. Thank god Brees got out when he did.

Yes. And in that vein of pettiness, I celebrate the Seahawks loss in OT in Seattle.

Not pettiness, Schadenfreude - And the schadenfreude is wonderful isn't it?

Matt Ryan threw pick-sixes on back to back drives to the same player. That was a bright spot of today.
