Re: Observations from the Saints' loss to Carolina
Winston's own words - “I have to take responsibility for communicating with the offensive line...Got to get us in better protections. Just communicate better out there.” Agree that FatherTime had caught up to Brees; heck, was first here three years ago to point out Brees' declining arm strength, air yards per attempt... But for those who complain that Brees was holding us back, you should also balance your criticism against what Brees brought to the table in pre-snap adjustments... Even Moose Johnson acknowledged during the broadcast that no one was better at making adjustments before the snap but with his short, intermediate throws... |
Re: Observations from the Saints' loss to Carolina
For those that said we didn't run enough, if you have the time, accessibility, go back and watch the game, pause before each offensive snap...
And count the Panthers defenders in the box; rarely did they have less than eight in the box; so they knew they weren't going to let Kamara beat them... The Panthers bet Winston couldn't beat them and they were right; he failed to call adjustments to his offensive line for protection - game difference... |
Re: Observations from the Saints' loss to Carolina
Thank God Carolina is the team that has to play the quick turnaround this week and appear on Thursday night, not us. We have adjustments to make, players to heal and our assistant coaches need time to shake the 'vid. Need every day this week.
One bright spot I don't think that has been mentioned is Ty Montgomery. He has made some good plays in special teams and receiving the ball in the flat. I think we need to get him more involved, especially if ... Deonte Harris can't get it going in the way we need him to. He is supposed to be our poor-man's Tyreek Hill in our offense, the speed guy to cause havok and create openings for other players, but it hasn't looked that way. |

Re: Observations from the Saints' loss to Carolina
I worry that Jameis has been exposed with the blitz packages. Not only was he not adjusting the line pre-snap, even when he had time he was way off target. I think Taysom knows our system better. It seemed like Jameis was in the black and only having an offseason of half reps is the cause.

Re: Observations from the Saints' loss to Carolina
Saints have a history of making young QB's play extraordinary games against us. But in all fairness this game was a train-wreck from the start all the IR's and Covid Coach's out. We were doomed from the start.
