Re: Starting Guard Battle? Should Throckmorton supplant Peat/Ruiz when McCoy returns?
Peat graded out horribly in this game. Throckmorton didn't look much better though. No one on the O-line looked good. Against Carolina Ruiz disappointed me at center. He looked better last week in relief of McCoy. I'm hoping that Ruiz shifts back over to LG sooner rather than later. We should trade Peat to a team that needs a guard. However it's highly unlikely that a team is going to take on that albatross contract.

I have to wonder how much the missing assistants factored into the poor OL performance. I really don't want to comment or criticize further until I see how we play after the staff is mostly back on the sideline.

I think this had a ton to do with it. From my understanding it wasn't individual gaffs that was the root of the problems, but overall execution and scheme. That's on the coaches ... or lack there of. Adjustments were not made on Carolina's complex attack. They were constantly changing up alignments and attack points.

I've seen enough games against the big boys (Chiefs, Vikings, Rams, Niners) where Peat gets abused in the trenches. That’s the conundrum of Andrus Peat. He has very high highs, but equally, terrible lows. The current contract on Peat does not equate to the production on Sundays folks. |

Sean Payton, rather emphatically, said that had nothing to do with the performance in the post-contest news conference...

Of course he did. He's going to use it to turn the heat up on the players whether warranted or not. Always a learning moment. Don't waste the opportunity. That said, it is also most likely deflecting whatever situation caused this breach to begin with. And I'm talking COVID, not offensive line breach.
