By expanding the name, you make the others from the region or the state feel more inclusive, after all its not just those in New Orleans, who support the Saints, its the entire region.

Examples
The overall recent trend in the NFL is to name teams after a large inclusive region or state, rather than a smaller city.
Examples: New England Patriots Arizona Cardinals Minnesota Vikings Tennessee Titans Carolina Panthers Even the newest team, the Houston "Texans", put a larger flavor on their team. |

Yeah I get your point mjf150, but what I think people are saying is New Orleans has the recognizable name, not Louisiana. It would be like renaming the Corvette to the Chevrolet speedster or something like that. New Orleans has it's own unique name people know, and people know it more then ever now, believe me.

I love New Orleans it is, was, and always will be a wonderful city. But unlike many of the cities that you've listed above, it, alone, can not substain an NFL team. New Orleans does not generate enough revenue to do so. It requires the support from the entire state including our tax dollars.
