Winston is not a "cerebral QB." He's got skill. And he's athletic. I don't want to call him dumb. He's just not the QB that is gonna make the reads like Brees. He probably relies more on instinct. He's obviously not as serious. Brees was all business. Like a coach on the field.

This is exactly why we would be better off with Taysom. I don't think Jameis is bad or anything, I just think he has a very high ceiling. He has a quick mind, he runs well, and throws bullets. I don't think he does a bad job at choosing the right receivers, but he does throw the ball too damn hard. I think this is correctable with in game reps. I just think Winston is missing something that is required to be at the top of the NFL hierarchy.

To be fair, having a cerebral QB who takes on such a heavy role of leadership is a rare thing. A Brees or Peyton Manning or Brady or Elway just doesn't come along all too often. There are guys like Aikman or Favre that are in the Hall of Fame and great in their own way yet are not this type of QB. Need to evaluate Winston for who he is. |
