Michael Thomas has injury setback, return to the Saints is still unclear

1 Attachment(s)
The Michael Thomas saga took a new turn this week, as the New Orleans Saints star receiver has a new issue with his injured ankle, according to an NFL Network report.

Thomas recently saw a specialist for his injured ankle, according to the report.

https://bloximages.newyork1.vip.town...ze=1476%2C1057

He has been on the Physically Unable to Perform list since the start of training camp after he underwent surgery on his ankle shortly before the start of the season. Thomas was eligible to return to the Saints two weeks ago, but he has not yet practiced, the team has provided no details about his potential return, and this latest setback could potentially result in more time out.

I like Michael Thomas. I really do. But I am now concerned that this is becoming the kind of injury you just never really get past.

Saints need to bring someone in and the guys on the roster better recognize an opportunity when it presents itself. One of them has the chance to claim the #1 WR spot.

Need to trade Mike next year and get something for him. He can go the way of other cast offs that make their money in Payton’s system only to leave and washout everywhere else.

What a head case he turned into in such a short time. The guy came in humble and hungry, but as soon as he got paid he was completely different.

Doubt we see him suit up again as a saint.

And now he’s out for the season.

This guy.
This guy that waited until the start of the season to have surgery.
This guy didn't return phone calls from the Saints coaches and Front Office.

I think I hate this guy.

I have been telling friends for a few weeks that I don't think Thomas will ever be healthy again. Nagging ankle issues, trying to play through them, delayed surgery, delayed recovery, disputes with team... We might as well resign Cameron Meredith, place him on IR, and circle the date of his return on the calendar with all our hopes and dreams.

Also I think there is one team that would be willing to trade for Michael Thomas at this point. The Raiders are willing to do an even swap for Henry Ruggs.

We should have traded for a receiver.

Knowing the setback, they should of tried harder trying to get someone before the deadline

Knowing Thomas he waited until after the deadline to announce it just to be a dick. Wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

Maybe but I’m sure they had a good idea something wasn’t right with him or the rehab.

Yep. Otherwise they would have removed him from the PUP. That is why they tried to get a WR yesterday.

Or perhaps drafting a WR three seasons ago?

I get it going “safe” with olineman early but you also need playmakers at skilled positions. 2022 draft needs to focus more on the wideout spot.

We don’t have a #1 or legit 2 on the roster.

Well, ATL Braves just won the World Series after losing their best player, Ronald Acuña Jr., one game before the All Star Break (which MLB foolishly moved from ATL)...

They're the first team since 1964 Cardinals to win the World Series after being sub .500 at the AllStar Break; so they found a way to get it done, against some good teams...

As deep and talented as this team still is, including at QB and WR; and with reinforcement designated to return, I'm all in with this team irregardless...

Saints were in the loop. They couldn't justify the price tags for the WR trade attempts yesterday. This is a BB type of move, and a smart one as well. We'll have bigger cap space next year for bigger moves.

I agree, they had that Drew had turned no named guys into solid guys mentality and got complacent. Now it’s biting them in the ass. Should of been drafted a receiver or two the past couple of years, knowing a twilight Drew needed actual talented receivers.

I’m going to be honest and people might not like this take but the saints have some blame in this too. Having him in a game in garbage time to get this injury in the first place. That game was over and you got your starters out there. And this medical staff is still questionable with these injuries we’ve been having seems to get worse every year. Guys out for long periods of time

Did Thomas have the procedure at Ochsner? When things go south, or there's complications, you never get where it's done, only when it goes right...

Trade for what? A shrimp po-boy and a bag of Chee-Weez?

He is injured. An injured player has no value. Clearly this isn't a situation where rubbing some dirt on it will make it better.

I don't care if the Saints trade MT, just get him off the team and be done. The Saints can go another year without a high price QB so if MT creates dead cap space then no problem.

Re: Michael Thomas has injury setback, return to the Saints is still unclear

According to the extensive research I spent 5 minutes on, the Saints have less than one million left under the Cap. Any trade they attempted needed to include the other team eating a significant amount of money. I’m guessing they wanted extra draft compensation for that. That’s probably why they could not get a deal done.

two years essentially unproductive. After getting a MONSTER contract. terrible timing. Anyone else a bit unimpressed?

Nice! It’s cool how they have a sandwich that represents the areas people live in. Up here it’s a lobster roll. Down there it’s a shrimp po-boy. Back in California it’s...well, they just put Avocado on whatever sandwich you have and call it Californian.

What's done is done. We have nothing less than we had last week, other than Winston, of course. It is indeed water under the bridge. Although, if dwelling on something that we have no control over as fans makes you feel better ... then dwell away!

:D

I for one am looking forward to our run to the playoffs.

We're pretty low on the waiver list. That's the curse of having one of the better records in the league.
