Second go around as a HC?

I was kinda wanting a change. It seems like we’re gonna run a knock off version of a Payton led team

Agreed.

Well let's see how this goes I guess, Allen did draft Derek Carr and Kalil Mack.

My hope is that Allen let's Pete C be the primary OC.

Dennis does have his own fire, so will be interesting to see how this goes.

Put on all the armor for the next days while ESPN and national media throws stones at us for our non-diverse choice.

I like Allen but I honestly think he’s one of those guys that are a great coordinator but not head coach material. I hope I’m wrong, I don’t mind eating crow. I sure they’ll keep Carmichael as OC. They’re gonna keep the band together.

I personally wanted Doug Pederson but congrats to Dennis Allen.

I'll be curious to see what play calling Carmichael dials up without Sean Payton breathing down his neck.

Hopefully, he promotes Kris Richard to DC.

Looking forward to this change; hoping Jeff Ireland will get an expanded, weighted influence on the personnel moves...

Kinda hoping Kris Richard gets the nod at DC (Defensive Backs coaches tend to make better DCs), but still keeps his job as DB coach, maybe get another DB asst db coach...

Have a lot of reservations about Bieniemy, would like to have seen him successful in more than just one place that didn't have Andy Reid, Pat Mahomes...

Have had a lot of respect for Flores, but didn't want the lawsuit distraction being brought on with a new coach; looking forward to seeing if he can make his case...

Doug Pederson would have made an interesting hire, plus he has Louisiana roots...

This move/hire reminds me of when the 49ers had Bill Walsh retire and George Seifert stepped in - they kept winning, including another SuperBowl...

Plus one. Carmichael on his own as OC is gonna be one of the big storylines for sure...

I like DA for continuity, but I would have liked Flores to spit in Rog's eye (and I think he would have done well)

They gotta keep Kris Richard. The guy essentially turned our secondary into the legion of boom 2.0 and what he did with PJ was nothing short of a miracle.

Paulson Adebo as well. Definitely, KR fingerprints all over that secondary.

No doubt, K. I thought Glenn was our best secondary coach in the Payton era til Richard showed up.

Re: Saints hire Dennis Allen as Head Coach

Who didn’t see that coming? My biggest fear is that they’ll just try to stay true to what Sean Payton did and be afraid to shake things up. Will Dennis Allen be able to establish his own identity?

Re: Saints hire Dennis Allen as Head Coach

Payton handed him the keys to the kingdom as the DC, Payton leaves and gives him the thrown. I really believe Payton set this up. Not an Allen fan. 9-7 to 8-8 this season. Hope he proves me wrong.

Happy with this. Defense wins championships and he has built a great one.

So what did the Saints talk about when they interviewed Bienemy for 8 hours? That's a long Interview, isn't it? Is it remotely possible he's not really HC material if he's getting passed by every time?

hitta 02-07-2022 07:27 PM

Re: Saints hire Dennis Allen as Head Coach

Pederson hasn't done anything special at all. He one a Super Bowl with a QB a lot of confidence and hot streak who performs especially well in the clutch and then they subsequently went and got rid of him and went with their 1st round draft pick Wentz who actually got worse the longer he was on the team. Pederson was handed a SB, he didn't really earn it from my perspective. People act like he did something great but he didn't. We will be incredibly thankful we didn't get him in a couple of years when he gets fired.

As I stated before though, I'm terrified of being stuck in mediocrity. I see all these teams with great QBs and we need to find a way to put one on our team. You want to see a perfect example of why you need good QB play to get to the SB and win, just look at the Titans. The game between the Bengals really revolved around two possessions one for the Titans, the other for the Bengals. The Titans guy threw a pick, the Bengals guy threw a great pass to get his team in FG range. It's almost impossible to win in this league without good QB play. You don't even need a good offense. You can be a defensive oriented team. You just need a guy that can make that play when you need it and not **** everything up when you really don't need him to.

No disrespect to Pete Carmichael, but I hope Dennis brings in a fresh offensive mind. Pete helped Sean Payton run Sean’s offense. Let’s not run this thing with the “ghost” of Sean Payton hanging over everything.

I think DA deserves a shot and as many have said here Sean is handing over a stable foundation. Pete at OC will be crucial to the transition. As for Pederson my gut tells me he wouldn't capture the locker-room. But I was liking the idea of Flores coming in, when it comes to the NFL he speaks our language. Now I like Lovie Smith but I think the Texans made a huge mistake but time will tell.

I know a lot of people wanted a complete change, but this is not a bad team that fired its coach. This is a team that had a winning record, a great defense, and narrowly missed the playoffs despite having an unprecedented number of players injured/out with covid. Is a little continuity here a bad thing?

Not sure if you've heard Duncan's take but he believes Allen could go in a different direction at OC. No guarantee he'll roll with Pete.

As you stated, fresh/new ideas should be welcomed.

Guess we'll find out.

Re: Saints hire Dennis Allen as Head Coach

I think the Saints kind of have their wings clipped with the worst cap situation in the league and the disastrous contracts to hill, peat, and thomas. Add into that the high expectations created by the last 3 Brees seasons that could not be repeated even if we had Brees back because we cant afford receivers. An amazing rising star coach would likely realize ours is a situation to avoid, and if not, their star would lose its luster drawing up plays for trainwreck smith and adam trashman. We have to rebuild. Our defense can still be ok so the best bet is a defensive coach who can polish their resume on that side of the ball. Allen lacks other opportunities so he is a fine caretaker. If he doesnt work out, I would rather go after the next great coach in a few years without Peat hogging all the wings at the recruitment dinner, hill asking the new coach his name ever 5 minutes and tripping him with crutches, and Thomas having to block another number on his iphone.

I’m thinking nobody really wanted to come here. Seems like it was kind of a ask all the hot chicks to the prom first and if you get turned down go with the chick with a “great personality “ type of situation.

I’m not sure what level of excitement you were hoping for but I think it’s worth learning if DA can lead this team the way he’s helped SP for so many seasons.

It is the safest bet for the near future. Some stability in an otherwise unstable situation. The revoloving door in the head coach world will offer up many new options next year. Obviously, the admin felt it was the best candidate out of the interviewees.

saintsfan1976 02-08-2022 06:03 AM

Re: Saints hire Dennis Allen as Head Coach

Sign Marcus Williams. Give DA a stable leader at QB and some damn weapons on offense. Otherwise the HC won’t matter.

The NFCS is wide open at the moment. A lot could change between now and the draft but our time to solidify the franchise beyond SP’s legacy is now.

Its hella tough when you get your first job as the man in charge. You gonna make a lot of mistakes. The good ones gonna learn from them and do way better the second time.
I'm glad they hired Allen, the D has been growing into a formidable unit under him the last couple of years. I hope he gets another DC because I am no fan of head coaches being coordinators and calling plays, they have enough on their plates anyways.

Seems to me like some here forget that we ahev already seen a full season of Carmichael as the OC, back in 2012 when SP was suspended. The season as a whole was trash with the worst defence in leauge history but the O produced with Brees throwing for over 5 000yds. I think we wil be altright there.

Allen lets our OC go, that's his 1st mistake. If so Campbell's (Detroit) gonna scoop him up and gonna jump start Detroit. Bad move on Allen good move for Campbell. Do we really have the players in place to run a new O?
