If he did not like him he could take the head coach interview, and then if passed over ask to be released, and go elsewhere. Thats common when one coordinator gets the head gig the other asks to move on, its respected. He could prove elsewhere that he is good without Payton. I just think refusing an interview and asking for a demotion is a weird strategy for anything. If he wants to go back to being Paytons OC how does asking for a demotion help? And what kind of plan is that having no idea where Payton will end up or whether Payton will love broadcasting or whether the jobs Payton wants will come open?

There's nothing wrong with asking if anyone has seen where Carmichael has actually asked for a demotion. I was agreeing with Bako that it made no sense. It's not "fact checking", it is simply wanting to know as much as I can about the team I love. It would be interesting if that actually happened. I never saw that in my daily readings and haven't been able to find anything about it searching.

Yes, Matthew. I have seen both those articles. It is clear that Carmichael turned down an interview, as I mentioned. I just haven't seen anywhere that he actually requested a demotion. Neither of those articles say that. Just wondering where that rumor came from.

Edit: Okay! I see where that could be taken as "asking for a demotion", Matthew. Thanks! I took that as a request to simply transition out of the OC position, not asking for a demotion.
