Thats common when one coordinator gets the head gig the other asks to move on, its respected. He could prove elsewhere that he is good without Payton. I just think refusing an interview and asking for a demotion is a weird strategy for anything. If he wants to go back to being Paytons OC how does asking for a demotion help? And what kind of plan is that having no idea where Payton will end up or whether Payton will love broadcasting or whether the jobs Payton wants will come open?
I keep seeing people around here mentioning Carmichael asking for a demotion. I'm not sure where that came from. All that has been said is that he would not be the OC, yet will remain with the team in an offensive capacity. Nowhere that I can find states that the decision to separate Carmichael from the OC spot was his. I have also not been able to find anywhere that the position moving forward was going to be a demotion.

As you just mentioned, Bako, that makes no sense. The refusing an interview part, however, makes sense if he already knew that Allen was getting the job and that another position was reserved for him.

Does anyone have a reliable source where either or both of these has been shared as fact?

You are not the fact checker here. It's a freaking forum on the freaking internet little speedo. Speculating is what we do, and NOBODY here wants you trolling them as the fact police. Leave your damned ego at the login screen.

Longtime offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael is expected to remain on the staff but in a lower-profile position than coordinator, sources said. Sources said the transition came at the request of Carmichael, who also declined an opportunity to interview for the Saints' head coaching position.

You, sir, have the hugest ego on the entire site. You've made that quite obvious from what I have been told. There's nothing wrong with asking if anyone has seen where Carmichael has actually asked for a demotion. I was agreeing with Bako that it made no sense. It's not "fact checking", it is simply wanting to know as much as I can about the team I love. It would be interesting if that actually happened. I never saw that in my daily readings and haven't been able to find anything about it searching.

Is there anything wrong with that?

Is he still pulling that crap? I'm glad I blocked him. He's too vindictive to suit me or the majority of the BNG members. Oh well, Que Sera Sera!

Yes, Matthew. I have seen both those articles. It is clear that Carmichael turned down an interview, as I mentioned. I just haven't seen anywhere that he actually requested a demotion. Neither of those articles say that. Just wondering where that rumor came from.

Edit: Okay! I see where that could be taken as "asking for a demotion", Matthew. Thanks! I took that as a request to simply transition out of the OC position, not asking for a demotion.

I took him off ignore just wondering what he could have found to gripe about there. Back on!

This sure looks like a demotion to me:
"step down as Saints offensive coordinator"

Sorry, wasn't clear, that line came from article 2.

Yes. That would seem so worded that way. I missed that quote. Was it in the NOLA.com article? I have to keeping closing and opening the articles on that site and read it is snippets. LOL!

That all just makes it more interesting on what the plans are with Carmichael. Can't wait to see where we go with OC. We should be hearing something soon you would think.
