Pete Carmichael maybe out as OC

This is very interesting, I assume we will be hearing more about this in the near future:

Re: Pete Carmichael maybe out as OC

Why would Carmichael turn down the interview for head coach just to be cut loose? I can possibly see him as associate head coach. It's been a pretty common practice with the Saints.

What if the extra long interview with Bieniemy was convincing him to become the OC in some manner?

That was my initial thought. Bienemy to us as OC/ asst. HC. Why else would he leave? And what QB could he be most excited to work with??

Jameis Winston, perhaps?

I could be completely wrong but for Eric to leave a franchise QB, stud WRs #1-4, stud TE and potent run game for New Orleans ? ... To take a lateral move?

That's a hard sell.

Unless enough money is thrown at him

Money AND recognition could do it. One of the knocks I kept hearing on him was that his success was dependent upon Reid, Mahomes, and those offensive weapons. Reinvigorating a Saints offense would really enhance his chances of landing a head coaching job sooner rather than later, wouldn't you think?

And being THE man with the offense wouldn't be a lateral move in that sense.

Another thought on Carmichael. If he truly has no longer has ambitions to become a head coach what difference would a title be to him? As long as the money is right staying with the Saints in any capacity would be a possibility.

Yes, the article did state that he was likely to remain in a different role. If all this holds true, it will show DA has a very different image of what the new offense should be. Very interesting stuff!
